My pops made a similar argument the other day and I got so frustrated I wanted to hang up the phone. He unequivocally believes it's a cultural problem. I said pretty much the same as you...that it's a matter of proximity and race is incidental. But he's of the mind black folk "can't afford to not be aware". I mean yea the thought is nice, but that's generally not how people operate. I don't know why we'd carry on any differently. You subject anyone to those conditions and this is the result. Nobody's gonna drive 30 miles away to go rob or shoot someone.

There are so many of us that came from “poverty” and being around others that look like us, in close proximity to each other but are doing quite well today. The environment can’t be an excuse. Everybody makes choices. Nobody has to be a “street nikka” just because they were born and raised in the hood.
