I like the picture he paints of a heroin addict on "cold stares" it's really immersive
I like his verse/singing on "paranoia" which is one of the best songs about Chicago gun violence from a different perspective then we usually hear
I like "tap dance" for the extended metaphor of not just the dance/music/time signatures but two individuals being in sync with each other or maybe two parts of one person. never really figured it out
"Acid rain" is just phenomenal overall, the song really plays with your expectations on a line to line basis. I get bored with typical rap tropes as we all do. when he says "cause n***** still gettin bodied for foams" that resonated with me because it's so abrasive and such a departure from the rhyme scheme and the rest of the song. that's someone who has presence and command on the mic to take a risk like that.
and I was rockin to that arthur theme song remix he did cause I watched Arthur as a kid a little and they killed that shyt and got me all nostalgic at the same time
I just enjoy his music
Okay it's cool that you like that all, but I still don't see how this makes him linguistically intelligent? I'm reading these lyrics, for example in "Cold Stares". The song is pretty good, his delivery is actually nice here, but the lyrics don't follow a logical path, and not in a way that seems like it's on purpose. It seems like he just wrote shyt that rhymed that fit into a greater concept, but it was executed poorly. When you say "linguistic intelligence", I think of quite a few things. Metaphors, similes, concepts and how you tie them together, alliteration, rhyme schemes, vocabulary. Chance might have some skill in each area, but he never ties it together with good execution.
He has the same problem on Paranoia. It likes he assumes just because he's saying something different it automatically makes it good. Same with tap dance, that shyt was hardly clever imo, and he didn't even flesh out the concept that much. Lyrically average, definitely a somewhat intelligent dude. But not as smart as you make him out to be. I've seen 0 wordplay from him that impressed me.
