well, i sleep a lot at night but i wake up and feel like shyt. Idk why because i sleep with a semi regular schedule unlike my friends who are all over the place. I smoke weed, which makes me feel groggy. I dont eat much and what i do eat is either snack food like crackers and stringcheese, frozen foods like pizzas and beef patties, and dinner which can be anything but is usually healthy with meats, veggies and carbs. I dont exercise on purpose persay, but i mow lawns and play ball with friends so id say im fairly in shape. But im actually reverting it seems, even though ive been cutting lawns for about a month now ive actually gotten weaker.
There is sleeping and the. "good" sleep.

Sounds like you aren't fueling yourself optimally. Without this turning into a questionnaire I would say look at what you are drinking. Liquid calories in most forms are worth it if they are a late part of your caloric consumption.

Start trying to eat more balanced like you allude to doing at dinner across all of your meals.

gas can be caused a lot by what you're eating and the order you're eating it in. i actually used to get frequent stomach gas after every meal i ate (despite being a vegetarian, relatively healthy) and upon research, i changed a few things to help me out:

if you have the money, purchase the following vitamins:
b12
trace minerals
multi vitamin
spiralina (tablets)
vitamin d (if youz a nikka like me)
red reishi

be cautious of food sequencing... try to eat your meals in the order that they best digest. technically we should consume food in the following order:
1. Juices and Water
2. Soups, Fruits, or Smoothies
3. Vegetables
4. Grains, Starches
5. Beans, Poultry, Meat, or Fish

1 being the shortest to digest, 5 being the longest to digest. when you mix up your food consumption, it impacts your digestion process and is what leads to things like gas, smelly breathe, irritated stomach, etc. i try to avoid juices/carbonated beverages with my meal and finish a full glass of water before i eat anything.

as for mental health, exercise regularly, meditate (in a method that suits you best) at the start of your day and be weary of your diet. what you put in your mouth impacts you tremendously physically/mentally and emotionally. research different methods of meditation and figure out something that works best for you alongside how it best fits into your schedule. i suggest it being the first thing you do each day so you are in check with yourself fully before you begin a long day.

my mother's in the mental health field and i grew up with a very close family member who suffers from schizophrenia, so i really don't play with my mental well being. :yeshrug:
thank you for this post. I commend you for the last part about your family member with schizophrenia, that runs in my family too but i wasnt as smart as you are and i tampered with the wrong drugs and didnt take care of my mental health. I went through some SERIOUS shyt with my bipolar recently, much of it would have been avoided if i took better care of myself. As for diet ive started reading labels again and trying to balance what i eat. But its really hard to do when you dont live a very structured life, i tried to do the eating 6 meals a day thing but i can blow 4 hours without me noticing just on the internet, plus my appetite is shyt so i couldnt bring myself to eat that much. Im definitely going to start looking into relaxation and meditation techniques, ive tried a few times but im SOOOO anxious that i cant keep my eyes closed for more than a few seconds, and when i try to breathe deeply my heart starts feeling weird and i get a little anxiety attack. I used to meditate just by lying down and attacking each little stressor i had in my mind, figuring out solutions and plans for my problems in life. It really helped to make me feel more at ease. I really just need to learn how to relax more.

and about the vitamins, ive heard that vitamins are essentially useless most of the time because your body doesnt metabolize them right or something. In general i just get the vibe that i should stay away from vitamins and get my nutrients from dieting.

tbh i dont drink very much. Drinking water is unpleasant for me, it just feels weird going down and it messes with my stomach because i usually just let my stomach fester instead of giving it food and water. I drink a decent amount of juices and rarely soda, lots of apple juice, lemonade, other things. I can honestly say i live off the sugar from juice, snack food, and frozen pizzas (and dinner)

You're right. Mental and physical health are intertwined. The mind is connected to the body so when the body feels good the mind feels good and vice versa.

Exercise is key for me. It's a flat out MUST. I don't give a fukk if its a day I don't "feel like it" I DO IT ANYWAY!!! I switch it up too, not do the same routine over and over.

As far as diet I just make sure I don't eat more too much garbage (fast food) and stay hydrated.

Mentally I try to deal with whatever's goin on in my head instead of suppressing it. Get it out, tackle the issue and rise above the bullshyt.
I feel you on the mental part, one of my greatest strengths is my understanding of my own mind. Instead of ignoring important things just because i dont want to deal with them, or just having self-serving thoughts that arent realistic, I try to be as logical as possible and confront myself on everything. I think its made me a much better person.

I dont understand how you can be motivated to exercise daily, i can barely get myself to cut lawns which is my main source of income and its not even hard. I guess once you get in a rhythm with it and start feeling the effects it becomes easier.

Ive been tired and depressed for a solid 8 years. fukk medication it does a crappy job of covering up serious problems. I want to learn some true healthy living tips from people who actually know what theyre talking about. I want to wake up feeling refreshed and positive, not dreading having to get up out of bed because i feel like i just came back from the vietnam war the last day. I dont want to have diarhea and gas, brain fog, headaches, exaustion, none of that mess. I want to feel comfortable in my skin physically, like actually just feel comfortable. I always feel kinda at edge and irritable even when im happy, when im happy i act like a jerk and when im sad i act like a despondent loner searching for purpose in life. I believe mental and physical health are completely intertwined, so ive decided its time to take a new approach to fix my problems

so what are the things one needs to do to be healthy? Positive thinking? Meditation? Exercise? Tea? Not eating preservatives? I know a decent amount about health given ive done lots of research on mental health and im good at biology, but i need the insight from someone whose really about that health nut life.

In a nutshell eating low glycemic vegetables that don't raise blood sugar and alkaline foods that don't increase the acid content in your body. I'll quote:

Toxic acid-promoting foods include refined carbs, dairy and meats and poultry. These foods create the kind of acidic environment in your body that puts stress on your kidney and liver and may even increase the risk of diabetes. Foods that produce alkaline compounds in the body, however, help neutralize these effects. Knowing which foods are acid-promoting and which are alkaline-promoting is the first step to balancing your diet.

  1. Draft beer (most neutral)
  2. Honey
  3. Asparagus
  4. Margarine
  5. White wine
  6. Broccoli
  7. Marmalade
  8. Mineral water
  9. Watermelon
  10. Apples
  11. Red wine
  12. Zucchini
  13. Hazelnuts
  14. Green beans
  15. Tomatoes
  16. Cherries
  17. Radishes
  18. Cauliflower
  19. Potatoes
  20. Apricots
  21. Carrots
  22. Celery
  23. Bananas
  24. Spinach
  25. Raisins (most alkaline-promoting)
To learn about more ways to keep your body's environment alkaline, check outthis alkaline meal plan.

A low glycemic diet would consist of some protein and vegetables that don't raise blood sugar. This helps avoid that crash you feel from eating, as well as bloating and weight gain.

I tell you what man I'm on the fence about going straight vegetarian. I got red meat out of my diet and been mainly eating fish, with very little chicken. It was tough at first but my body adjusted. Eating a lot of greens, ital tho like a true rasta, so I'm putting practically no seasoning. It's getting to a point where I look forward to eating just the greens, because it nourishes me and has done wonders for my mood. It's hard at the same time, because summer is here and bbq's and such bring temptation and 'peer' pressure to have a hotdog, lol. One day at a time and if I slip up it's all good.

Anyway I just made dinner.
Spinach, broccoli and mashed cauliflower with garlic. Note the struggle paper plate, cuz I ain't washing shyt up after.
