I lie every time. and usually it works.

how can they check my past salary? they pulling up my tax returns and what not?
Yea, I figure they investigate then thru discovery of your tax returns find out your income from past jobs

this also all depends highly on the field you work in.

i do sales where you get base + commision, so it can all vary wildly

I also use the app "glassdoor" and look up the company before hand to see kinda what the pay range is for the job. and if the company ain't in there, I try to find a similar company in order to find out how much I can reasonably ask for without being outrageous.

If you don't use glassdoor to check the salary range of the new company, please start doing so.

Off hand, I know a guy who got a call for a new job and when they asked him about his current salary, he lied to the moon, and they went and topped the imaginary figure to get him onboard.

My mans literally doubled his salary in one month. :wow:

they cant

all a new employer can do is answer yes or no to rather you worked there, they cant say anything else.
