All this drip on me
It doesn't matter what random anonymous weirdos on an internet forum thinks, do you homie and get therapy to help with any problems you may have.

Mental health is an issue in the black community that needs to be addressed and we need to be fully supportive of one another instead of judging/ostracizing/looking over those that are in need of support.

I'd definitely advise you to do it. As a couple of posters before me already said more black men should definitely seek professional help. It's really a shame how much mental illnesses go undiagnosed in our community. As someone who is currently going to therapy sessions I can tell you it works wonders

I'm definitely down for therapy because it can be helpful talking to someone unbiased. Blacks tend to look down upon therapy and people with mental health issues. Some blacks don't even take care of their physical health, aliments, and manage their weight and nutrition...so I can see them not taking care of their mental health. I supposed it is seen as a weakness.

Now, people still need to be realistic and realize that the psychologist/counselor can't magically cure all of ur issues. Its important to find a good counselor or specialist who is tailored to ur unique or specific issues. Then, you will have to be able to help urself and be willing to put in work.

And with some issues in life, it takes support, wisdom, and experience to figure out how to solve some issues. I look at my self esteem issues in the past and I wish I known back in high school what I know now.

Good to see a positive thread, I'd say do it OP.

I did CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) a few years ago and it helped me immensely. As a black man I was at first kind of sketchy on the idea as you know how we do.

But Black men especially seem to need this as the pressure on us in a day to day situations can be messed up and slowly takes it toll. I know too many black men who I've grown up with who've had very serious mental issues. Leading to them getting sectioned.

Luckily mine never went that far, but still it's worth just finding a professional to talk too

I did it on and off for about 10 years after my mom died.

Really helpful to speak to someone and not burden your friends and family with the same shyt over and over.

Finding the right therapist is hard though.

I went through about 3 before finding one I connected with.
