How do you feel about heavy singles?

Idk how I'd feel about bench or squats with that rep scheme :rip: but pulls :win:

I usually only do this on my 5th set if I wanna hit a new max for bench, overhead, squats or deads.

on your 5th set you try to hit a new max? :what: we're all wired differently but that seems like it would sabotage you. :manny:

It wouldnt be a true max but usually thats when I do the highest weight nonetheless. Sometimes I use the 5th as a dropset

For instance today when I did deadlifts

Started with 135 as a practice set
2 sets of 185, 8 times
1 set of 235, 5 times and then til failure (3 times)
255 once



School me though. Would i be better off going for a new max right out the gate as I'm fresh, after 1 practice set...at I guess the 3rd right in the middle.

I used to do reverse pyramid as a beginner but when i added practice and drop sets I kinda just assumed the one rep max was done towards the end.

edit: just asked my bro and he waits til the last set too. you had me worried:whew:

When in HS (on the FSU program) and college (GT), we did 1 rep max after a cardio warmup, light bench warmup, and medium bench warmup. That was our "max". When using a percentage based workout program ('x'% of 1RM) I tend to do a few moderate sets and then the high 1 rep. I do it that way to avoid a high max but lower endurance in workouts.
