They already did that. Back in the days Hispanics were considered White via census. It didn't change until Whites started bytching about it and it was eventually changed.

I doubt it goes back. Alot of Latinos wouldn't want it to go back because alot of them like being considered different from Whites. Mainly because of the (perceived) "benefits". Which is the same reason why Arabs (who are considered White on the US census) are fighting to get not be considered White anymore
