Sitting there last night listening to the commentators constantly ragging on the players, the dunks, the atmosphere, the participants, etc. and Charles even having his mic cut off a few times b/c of the constant bashing. Combine that with MJ's comments about only four current players being able to sustain their production in his time. It's funny for us but do yall think Stern gets annoyed at the old heads who are supposed to help promote the game but are instead constantly living in the past and reminiscing about how everything was better back then? How is the league supposed to move forward when this type of pessimism dominates a lot of the NBA convo? You don't get this type of negativity from old heads in other sports like the NFL and MLB.

their resentment is deeper than that.

Jordan is just an ornery b*stard and most of the media commentators are just hoes, but a lot of the old NBA heads got a legit critique. The NBA is the MTV of American sports leagues. They do a horrible job at telling their history, with the exception of Jordan, Magic, and Bird.

stern is gone next year he doesnt care.

but these old heads make me laugh, a few make legit points like reggie miller did when he was talking about the 3 point competition how years ago it was only guards dnow you have guys like 6/9, 6/10 nailing 3s like its nothing

the game is fast and stronger now, most of these old heads would be coming off the bench if they played now or in europe

i think a lot of it has to do with the money they are payed today. i agree tho, there is a big fraternity amongst the 80s/90s NBA players. their constant bytching and moaning is getting annoying.

He's used to it, back in the 90s you'd see Bill Russell on NBA on NBC halftime shows talking about Wilt Chamberlain would average 45ppg in that era and the whole panel just sits there like :merchant:

i guess we got to wait for some of these old heads to get to their 60s b/c Bill isn't on that hating tip anymore.

i know tnt execs were mad at charles yesterday b/c he was pretty much begging the viewers to change the channel.

there is something with the money, but I think the modern fan's and media's ignorance of history has a lot to do with it too.

I don't think it's money when you talk about nikkas like Chuck because players now (superstars at least) are getting jerked in terms of money. Just look at salary growth in baseball and football and compare it to basketball. Shaq and KG made more money 15 years ago than anybody except Kobe is making now.

I think the 80/90s players main beef with this generation is being more concerned with their brands then they are with competition. Slam Dunk contest is a perfect example. Jordan, Nique, Dr. J all participated in multiple dunk contests. It wasn't about hurting your image or "I'ma do one so I can say I did it"...nikkas was actually competing over that shyt. Beyond that I remember the days when nikkas only got one do over at then it was a wrap. nikkas out there looking like they are alone in the gym practicing with all those misses.

Yup

Old nikkas talk shyt about young nikkas, aint nothing new about that. It's not even unique to the NBA.

barkley was right.

nikkas today are too scared to compete.

money has something to do with their apprehension of competing. Since many players particularly the stars earn money outside of their NBA salary, risking getting hurt can mess that up. Barkley is right, but those same stars are not making what today's NBA players are making. They have more to lose.
