Brehs, while we at it... What about Lil Boosie? I'm always amazed when he shows off his property on VladTV. Boosie had some (mostly regional) hits, but he was never big enough nationally that his his albums could consistently go Platinum back in the pre-streaming era & he usually performed in club venues. So how he living so well?
This mentality is the mistake a lot of people who not from the South make. You think going platinum is the end all be all and that equates to automatic millionaire status with majors when it rarely ever does. We've been figured out the formula (RIP Southwest Wholesale) and really since the 90s most southern artists never really needed majors to build their fanbase organically. As long as you have fans and put out good music for them you can tour really 4-5 states and be set for life if you know what you doing. Own your music, bankroll the money into property and other business and you don't even need the music.
Slim broke it down.

Hard work and networking… Spitta is the NO version of ROC Marci. Always grinding no matter what.

After the Young Money situation ran its course, Spitta build his own empire from the ground up. Worked with Alchemist, Harry Fraud, Monsta Beatz, Rahki, Sledgren, etc.

Releasing a tape every month back when u had a MP3 player or IPod boosted his stock in the long run.

I’d want a life where I buy customs and play with Toy cars all day.
I'd compare Spitta more to Starlito. Virtually the same career path for both and both independent legends

Both Lito and Spitta were signed to Cash Money

:ohhh:

That’s very telling.

I forgot all about Lito. His catalog isn’t bad either.

I had a black IPod Touch with 128GB and my homeboy loaded all the stuff back then(this was Fall/Winter 2012). Mental WARfare and At War With Myself stayed in rotation for me.

Lito made it on his own after the Yo Gotti situation too.

I find it weird that Lito hasn’t did any songs with Gotti in years… I mean years.

These guys grind like crazy and actually stack the money up. I remember Gucci talking about it in his book.

facts.....both are respectable gentlemen no doubt :salute:

Spitta ain’t a Hollywood dude and I think that’s why rappers and folks never target him.

That’s one reason why I listen to him each day. His music makes u wanna chill and never forget where you’re coming from even while high.

Gucci playing Chicken Talk at that Swap Meet changed his career….

Nikka actually grinded and worked underground with everyone and most of em went to do good things. The producers especially.

It’s a reason why Gucci gets mayoral discounts.

He actually gave some of these guys his co-sign and gave em work.

Zay started off in the Bay and now everyone wants a beat from him. That work ethic helped Gucci and it paid off.

Where I shouldn't be
I was a massive fan of Pilot Talk 1-3, Covert Coup and the other albums that he put out in that era. Spitta's wordplay during that run was exquisite!
Add to that the other artists that were around in that period; Cudi, Cool Kids, Kidz in the Hall (& later Pro Era). Gave a new angle to the game and glad Spitta via his brand is still here.
:salute:
