First and only real tip is don't put your feet back in the middle.
Edit: that's not even DDR, it's in the groove/ pump it up, but the same principles apply.

They made it look so easy on Scott pilgrim. Maybe Nives was putting in all the work
My thumbs move faster than my legs so I do that on the controller 
. Got DDR Extreme 2 back in 6th grade and some kid who lived around the corner from me showed me you could play on the controller. I think it made me a better gamer; I got better at navigating the controller, as strange at it sounds.
