When you see IT workers and engineers getting paid less than 50k per year, you KNOW the system is broken.

The system isn’t broken, we are still afraid to ask for our worth. In this age, you can easily research if you’re being underpaid and do something about it if you are.

Don’t let them tell you that what you made before, somehow has any bearing on what you’re trying to make today. That’s what we need to be fighting for.

How many people on this site paying student loans up the ass

college is a L for *most* black people.

Breh it ain't about paying student loans. Its about paying a huge amount of student loans for a degree that will never pay you shyt.

Getting 50k in loans for a degree in say engineering aint that bad if you willing to hustle and move around for a job.

For example a young brotha I mentor got 50k in loans for a mechanical engineering degree. Dude graduated in chicago and got a job with a company in Nebraska making 65k. Worked a year and them moved to California to make 87k. Worked there for 2 years then got a job back home in Chicago for 95k

So in 3 years he went from making nothing to making 95k. So for his example that 50k investment went well. Dude is now living with 2 roomates and stated he should have his student loans paid off in about 1 year. Kat not even 30 and will be totally debt free and making big money.

Its all about the strategy and the field you are in.

Engineers making less thank 50k????

Depends on the state and if it is entry level. You may make 45k in Mississippi but the cost of living is so low you could stack 20k a year.

Also it could be an entry level job. In that case all you need to do is jump every couple of years to bump your salary.

I skipped through the video because it's 2 hours long. Ain't nobody got time for that on a Monday morning.

Anyways is she just talking about the strayer university type of schools? If so she has a point and they should be illegal because half of the time those schools aren't even accredited and they are expensive as hell

Lack of reparations coupled with systemic racism is why a racial wealth gap exists. Yvette is smarter than this. :francis:

2 parents have a child...

They decide not to be together.

Mom needs a 2 bedroom for her and the child. 1200 a month

Dad needs one too because he can't let his little man sleep on the couch. 1200 a month

Now if they were together they would only need 1 2 bedroom apartment. That's a positive 1200 a month.

Cable/internet for both homes that's another 100 bucks for each house.

Lights let's say that's another 100

Now without even getting into things like insurance (which is cheaper for married families) and food, which can vary. We're at a negative 1400 a month.

1400 a month is 16,880 a year.

Over 18 years thats 302,400 dollars.

The median wealth of white people is around 100 something thousand bucks compared to just over 1000 for black people.

We have a 70 plus percent out of wedlock birth rate.

Now I'm not downplaying systemic racism but we're definitely not helping ourselves...

As long as we live in a system dominated by one group who holds a bias against another group no matter what degrees you have the scope will be limited because its dependent on forces outside of you to let you take advantage of those degrees.

Reparations isn't a silver bullet. Don't know where you guys get this shyt from.

There is a heart and soul issue in the black community that is a bigger concern. A cultural rearrangement is needed. Not dollars.

Though I know you're king dap fisher.

Yeah but we also decrease our chances with the following trends:

Figure 2. Adjusted cohort graduation rate (ACGR) for public high school students, by race/ethnicity: 2016–17

We're only a step above Native Americans and I would argue that a lot of them live in equally shytty situations as a lot of black folks unless they are part of the minority that have casino money.

  • .Sixty-one percent of black students who took the ACT in the 2015 high school graduating class met none of the four ACT college readiness benchmarks, nearly twice the 31 percent rate for all students. Low test scores make the rest of the college application process more difficult. Getting accepted to a school, earning scholarships, and succeeding in later studies becomes more of a challenge.
  • . Among students enrolled in four-year public institutions, 45.9 percent of black students complete their degrees in six years—the lowest rate compared to other races and ethnicities. Black men have the lowest completion rate at 40 percent. This high dropout rate is partially due to the fact that 65 percent of African American college students are independent, meaning they must balance pursuing a degree with full-time work and family responsibilities.

I can go on. But the point is, that the system is unfair just like life is in general. But the goal should be maximizing your odds through your own actions and black folks, in general, are not putting their best foot forward a lot of times.
