Was he the Michael Jordan of boxing? Or is his legacy defined because of his personality and historic hyped fights?

No he wasnt Jordan, more like a TO character top at what he did but not in the ring mostly, his antics is whats most talked about. Ali received many gifts, took many ass whippings, truthfully it's hard to get a true guage on who was the best heavy of that era, Ali gets the nod cause he beat Foreman who clearly should be the GOAT heavy so Ali gets that praise. I can't give props to taking a massive one sided ass whipping then landing a flurry dropping a gassed man and Foreman quitting. Ali would of hands down been Goat had he not been jailed while in his prime, IMO him and Foreman both needed a rematch to put some distance between the two legacy wise, outside of Ali's image.

How many of Tyson's ko's had Don kings fingerprints on it, people dont like to talk and mention that at all dude has a collection of the most obvious fixed fights.................

More like Jordan was the Ali of basketball, but I thought we just did this a few weeks ago.

Sure, some of his legacy is defined by his personality & out of the ring events, but that's boxing.

Either way, his boxing accomplishments stand up to anyone's.
Ali is overrated but he is still great, that's as simple as it can get
What's missing from his accomplishments that you don't consider him the greatest heavy weight of all time? And who do you think was better?

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Look at his fights. It's easy to think he was a slouch cause you're not thinking of him being a heavyweight. Look at his footwork. How fast he was. He was fighting heavyweights. Bigger heavyweights

He was still 6'3 and 216. And kicking people's ass 30-40 pounds heavier. He fought 61 times. Say that again. 61. Floyd ain't even at 50 and won't ever get there. He only lost 5 times. And 37 times won by knockout

So you imagine this tall lanky boxer. Fighting stocky ass men who was trying to kill him. And probably could with a good punch. They wasn't touching him. And his little jabs would end up having your ass on the floor in half his fights. The other half he'd just jab you to death until it was over

It's funny saying Tyson could beat him. But Ali could beat a prime George foreman who was bigger, stronger and a better all around boxer. shyt tyson couldnt even get beyond the reach of lennox.

I don't know if he was Jordan. Then again is Jordan even Jordan? Is Jordan 200 levels above prime magic, or Kareem, or Robinson or duncan

I don't get where this "overrated" talk comes from, Ring Magazine voted him best fighter more than anybody ever in history and most of his fights are in their top fights in history list....what do they have to gain by "overrating" him?

Regardless, if you think he's overrated because of his "celebrity", or if you think he wasn't the Jordan of boxing, whatever....but IMO, from a TECHNICAL standpoint, let's not act like Ali wasn't a boxing strategist who actually got smarter as he got older and less quick.

C'mon someone who, as an amateur, wins six Kentucky Golden Gloves titles, two natonal Golden Gloves titles, an Amateur Athletic Union National Title and a gold medal at light heavyweight in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome CLEARLY isn't "overrated".

Someone who, as a pro, fought and beat the greatest heavyweights of his era (including seven other boxers - besides himself - in the International Boxing Hall of Fame) and go 56-5 (with three of those losses being towards the end of his career, when he was clearly washed up) over a nearly 20-year career (if you count the years he was exiled), isn't "overrated".

Now...if you want to talk about the "Michael Jordan of Boxing" in terms of sheer dominance, there's no QUESTION that the answer is Sugar Ray Robinson:
  • 85–0 as an amateur, with 69 of those victories coming by way of knockout (40 in the first round) ( :wow: )
  • Professional record of 128–1–2 with 84 knockouts, in only 11 years of pro boxing ( :wow: )
  • once had a 91-fight unbeaten streak (third longest in professional boxing history)
  • first boxer in history to win a divisional world championship five times
