Not everyone is complaining about the NBA salaries though.

Brian Scalabrine earned 20 million over his career.

Baseball....

Plus if you do it right, no really bad long-term dangers like the NFL has with concussions and other broken bones/ligament damage.
Guaranteed contracts

:blessed:

But every 5'9 kid in the hood think he gonna be that next Iverson.

:sas1:

Yall better get on yall Jackie Robinson and man up at 2nd base.

BTW,

Andrew McCutchen was named NL Player of the Month for June, after hitting .343/.410/.686 with 8 HR and 25 RBI.

:ohlawd:
they don't hear you though. Baseball is not "hood" enough :manny: passing up all that money

right, because its not like a good number of folks dont see big time contracts.
like kids dont get stuck in minors.
because mlb teams not signing these younger kids to longer deals where these kids not getting huge contracts till later.

I mean I can understand that a big reason why black people (particularly those in poor urban areas) don't play baseball.
It's fukkin hard to find a baseball field. And hard to get enough people to play games against each other. Plus baseball equipment (in the States, anyway) can be expensive.

For basketball, all you need is like 3 friends and a $20 ball.
And there are courts everywhere.

But there was a time when black players made up something like 20% of the league (I believe it was the mid 1970s).
I think now it's something like 5% or less.

All those things are true.
But are you really trying to argue that Basketball offers better opportunities and longevity than baseball does?

What I don't get is that there are actually a ton of baseball fields in this country. shyt, in NYC alone there are hundreds of baseball fields. I would bet there are a lot more baseball fields than there are football fields, but that's not stopping minorities from playing football.

Explain his contract to me please. I know he makes 50mil annually from Barcelona. But those soccer players contracts are usually based on wht they take home after taxes. So basically he makes 50mil before taxes, is this right?
In December 2012, Barcelona announced that Messi would sign a five-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2018 and raising his base salary to €16 million ($21.2 million) net, which will make him the highest on-field earner in football. As the tax bracket for this level of income in Spain is 56%, it means that Barcelona will have to pay Messi's income tax of a little over €20 million ($26.5 million).[280] His formal buy-out clause remains at €250 million.[281]

I live in the burbs and growing up we had to sneak onto the fields.
The keepers would drive by every few minutes/hours and kick us off.

Permits and shyt.
Basically any reason to not have kids use the fields except during little league in the spring/early summer.

Juwan Howard, Kevin Garnett & Shaq's contracts in the 90s are the reason for the maximum salaries.......also didn't hurt that having Bird rights allowed owners to really go ham....shyt would have gotten ugly.

It's crazy that contracts have really been stagnant since 99.....Everyone's making a big deal about the Lakers offering a max of 4 years 95 million like they weren't getting like Kev didn't get 6 for 126 back in 97. shyt should be way higher for melo, especially adjusting for inflation.

right, but that's the same for football. I'm not disagreeing with anything you said with respect to basketball - of course it's the easiest for kids to access and play. I'm just more confused as to why the argument of lack of accessibility is used so often for baseball when football has even less access.
