they dont give a dam about the artists, their aim is to make risk free money.
Promoting (spending money) an unproven (no prior sales track record) artist is a gamble..........the more promotion they give (the more money they spend) the bigger the gamble. They want safe bets.
Most of the people in the positions to give the green light on budgets dont know shyt about real hip hop music and dont care to know. They are basically souped up coli posters (educated people with the same personal biasis towards artists that you see on this board and probably even less knowledge on the artists) with financial resources. Now imagine having one of these Nas haters in a position where they can influence the type of promotion he will receive............or someone that doesnt understand what the roots are saying in a position to determine how much they will put into their next project. The shyt is designed to fail.
These same dudes see that singles are a consistent steady source of income for them so this is what their buisness design places a priorty on.
These dudes also see that album sales are unpredicatable (from what they think) so they treat nikkas albums like a crap roll (not putting too much money into one roll even if the odds are in their favor to hit their point, like a 6/8 point). They hedge their bets by selling the rights to peoples albums to website that u can stream the whole thing for 10 bucks a month (or free from your home computer), they half ass promote nikkas album and whatever else u can think of and if it sells Great, if it doesnt....they simply roll the dice again on something else
