you're aware that you can be a lyricist and make a songs using lyricism and still have part of the songs that are not lyricism but narrative parts, or bragadaccio parts, or punchlines, which is the case with your quote ? You can't make a song with 100 lyricism rhymes out of a hundred, that's called balance of the song. Nas is just being descriptive here and set an atmosphere for the listener to dive into it. How can't you just understand a basic thing like that :mindblown:

You absolutely can be a lyricist and make songs NOT displaying lyricism... naS did a lot of songs NOT displaying lyricism. I am waiting for the songs where he DID display lyricism. Thats what this entire thread has been waiting on. How you cant understand a basic thing like that is :mindblown:

its like how Lupe is the best lyricist... and he made "Failure" displaying the lyricism... while songs like "He Say She Say" or "Daydreamin" dont display lyricism.

Now, if you could just post naS' "Failure" then this thread would end...

You didnt show anything. I showed that the album is a bunch of incoherent ramblings that have no connection to each other with average 'flow'

"whether or not I get airplay I drink henny in the stairway" is NOT lyricism, I dont know how anyone could EVER confuse it for lyricism. And if you think thats different from anything Pac said or could say it just shows you dont have a grasp on lyricism.

I don't know how to make this more clear. Your thread means nothing to me. It was a colossal waste of your time. It was an utter failure. Your criticisms were incoherent ramblings. You scored zero points.

You are the one lacking a grasp on lyricism. Proof? Look no further than your thread on Illmatic

Is your definition of lyricism "use of literary devices" and nothing else?

The fact that we've reached different conclusions makes me think that you aren't being objective (like IR isn't objective about Nas' earlier work). Remember the conventional wisdom about Pac is that he wasn't lyrical.

Line for line is silly. Post the album where Pac is rhyming like Nas on Illmatic or IWW. Nothing else matters.

Album for album is ultimately just as arbitrary as line for line though. The reason I insist on using only a few lines at a time is because you can then easily point out the rhyming ability. Plus, not all lines on Illmatic are as lyrical as the next. There are lines on Illmatic where Nas just rhymes one syllable too. That's why I'm asking for the best lines on there that 2Pac supposedly can't match. Because there is obviously no debate about Pac being able to match the simpler lines on Illmatic where Nas only rhymes one or two syllables, which is just an ordinary way of rhyming.

Also, people who claim Pac is a technically weak rapper are claiming he wasn't capable of rhyming the way Nas does. You only need a few lines where he does in fact rhyme that way to prove he was more than capable but instead chose to vary the way in which he rhymed to suit his songwriting purposes. I get the feeling people in this thread don't want to take this challenge and instead want to debate its merit because they cannot find any lines on Illmatic that would prove them right.

Again, if there is something which is so terribly unique about Illmatic in terms of rhyming ability, it would be easy to post just a few lines that showcase this unique ability. If people can't do this, it makes me suspect that they confuse their preference for Nas' flow on Illmatic for rhyming ability. That's why 'conventional wisdom' isn't an argument. Conventional wisdom also has it that Pac is the undisputed goat but I don't need that authority to prove why he is.

the problem here is that naS stans dont understand what lyricism is...

they take lyricism to mean "lyrics they like" and nothing more. Its not a skill or a form of writing. simply a preference. If I was a naS stan I would use that line of thought too because there is no other way to support naS being better than other rappers. Look at all the excuses naS stans made in the premier thread about illmatic on the internet.

"You can tighten your circle or boa constrict"

a "boa constrictor" is a snake. "boa constrict" makes no sense (even google's new spell-check knows that's the improper use of the word)

There are a few.

You can go to some of these 3rd world countries where they barely speak English and sleep on dirt floors and they will tell you Pac is the GOAT.

Pac is worldwide...didn't they build a memorial for him in like Morracco or some shyt?

good point.

But that's only because pac died when nas was only on his second album.
Pac ain't get a chance to reach his full potential.

But you right though nas discography is solid
How much better could Pac had gotten as a rapper? He had already released 6 albums at the time of his death. He wasn't getting any better I'm sorry.
