:wtf: did you watch the video? I mean seriously, is that what he did in the tunnel? did he not whip dudes with a sword outside? :dahell:
Obviously it's not exactly what happened. But there is no rhyme or reason to the combat. Enemies surround you and you mash on whichever attack button you choose. It doesnt even really feel like your hitting anything. The different powers look cool but they all do pretty much the same shyt.

I think this is a fair criticism. The combat does look pretty mindless in the video.

:leon:sony giving native americans some shine
too bad they didn;t get a native to voice him.
I'm keeping my hopes up that the combat is fun and rewarding, I think that being able to quick dash between opponents to string together combos is a step in the right direction, I doubt it's going to be on par with Bayonetta or MGR:R but those games are completely built around the combat and this game is about living the super hero fantasy.
The Combat looks better than the combat in say AC4 with it's super simplistic systems, another open world game with traversal mechanics and this looks like traversing will be a lot more fun.

Infamous is one of those games where "watching" it doesn't feel as good as playing it. It may "look" pretty mindless but when you're playing it it's fun running around shooting and climbing.
I personally think it's silly to critique a game for using the mechanics you're supposed to use, I mean what is he supposed to be doing to the enemies, engage in QTE's with them?

Simplifying the game down to "Oh you just mash on the attack button over and over" is dumb.

You can say that about any game.
Oh you just press hold down L and press R to shoot guys over and over.

Oh you just keep jumping over and over on platforms.

Oh you just run left to right and jump.

Oh you just press the button that shows up on the screen to win.

Oh just drive here, kill him and go back to where you started. Game is no more mindless than anything else.

All I can judge is by what I see. I can also go by me playing infamous 1 but that combat was also pretty mindless. I mean whatever, it's not a big deal. To me the game still looks gorgeous and still has my interest piqued. But I think it's a fair thing to say based on the video.

Hey, a games pacing, combat scenarios, controls, mission structure w/e can be argued against that's fine. When someone critiques the game for doing exactly what it was designed to do and calling it "mindless" is pretty vague.

Like in Infamous 2 you can throw fire bombs, shoot out a wave of energy that holds enemies in the air and then you can shoot them however you want. You could also jump ontop of vehicles, lift them up in the air and then throw them at enemies. Heck, even doing this in the middle of combat looks crazy.

That doesn't sound "mindless". Saying mindless is saying it looks "stupid" which basically makes no sense. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying you should like what you see but "mindless" just strikes me as the odd term to use.

No doubt the game is fun. But the combat is not the strong suit.

It's not a case of just fighting enemies over and over again. Obviously that's what you do in all action games. It's that your strategy never changes. In other games you may have to use different weapons/strategies for different enemies. Or maybe you'll have to time your block/counters/dodges differently depending on who your fighting. In infamous none of that maters, you just attack. It doesn't really matter which attack your using or who your fighting against. Also you never feel like you are making contact with enemies you just swing and the animation goes on the same wether you hit something or not. It all ads up to a disconect that makes the combat not very satisfying in my opinion.

Most games with varied attacks give you specific reasons and situations to use different attacks. This particular playthrough looked like he was doing whatever he wanted to do and he could be just as good doing one specific thing.

EDIT: @MeachTheMonster said it better than I

How can you come to that conclusion when the game hasn't even come out yet?? We haven't even seen all the enemy types and other powers that they are tight lipped about. Saying "none of that matters" is premature because again we haven't seen the full game. That can only be true if the game indeed has no other enemy types, no other strategies and no other powers but that's absurd to assume so. Also you can't talk about animations not making contact with people and going on. I clearly saw hits connecting. If you want to talk about animations not going through, please go play Ryse. I can remember specifically instances where some fights look laughable because the frames wouldn't be interrupted like that fight with that chick with dual melee weapons or the coliseum battle against those dudes with the purple mohawks.

Again, most games you're talking about is already out, this game isn't so it's too early to say what you can and can't do in the game. We don't know the full moveset, enemies and whatnot there is going to be in the game. They've been very tight lipped about all that. Also these playthroughs had the game on easy and Delsin couldn't get hurt so they can show off the mechanics. In a normal playthrough, the game would be played differently because if you can die, there certainly would require a degree of strategy here. I remember in Infamous 2 there being enemies that had laser precision accuracy compared to the earlier enemies in the game.

My dude - I get that. It's not a big deal. It may play better on Hard and once it's released and later on in the game. I'm not issuing a blanket statement. I'm just providing an opinion based on what's in the video.

I'm going by the previous two games, the video posted in the op, and impressions I've read. Nothing says that this game will be wildly different from its predecessors, so it's safe to assume it will play very similarly. If they change things up a lot that would be cool to hear about and might raise my interest in the game.

And I'm not sure what Ryse has to do with the conversation about infamous.
