It uses tropes that are so prevalent in regular day life - especially in sports.

Everyone can point to a person in their life who's like Yamcha. Everyone can remember times where a person "ascended" and got better like a Super Sayian.

When you watching NBA videos, Kobe Bryant reminds you of Vegeta with his work ethic and overall mystique, etc.

I understand for brehs who were teenagers or kids from the late 80s to the mid 90s, but who have kids who were just born in the late late 90s and early 2000s still rocking with the show, how?

Cuz lets keep it honest, dbz is a simple story with simple characters but it still gets traction.

Because it’s a good show :stopitslime:

DB pushed anime' popularity through the roof. It was also a cartoon that was "masculine", muscles, exploding planets, lots of yelling, blood, energy beams, powering up, explosions, etc. Perfect for North Americans. Most Shonen manga/today are influenced by it. It might only be second to Akira and Astroboy in terms of overall influence. Great video games too and a dedicated fanbase.

Dragonball Super is fuego, early bits are suspect (just watch the movie versions of Beerus and Golden Frieza arc) but from Champa's introduction on to Goku Black and Tournament of Power it's as good as DBZ. Imo overall its better than Z. Even Goku's English voice actor agrees with me, not that it means anything, I just have good taste.

DBZ I think the fact that characters lose and some die was the fact it was so popular in America. Like growing up you never had cartoons where heroes took L's from the bad guys. Hell some of them died trained in the after life and came back stronger than ever. I'm sure my kids are going to be fascinated by this anime just as much as I was.

Super on the other hand has it's moments but nowhere near close on DBZ levels.

The Cleveland Cavaliers reminds me of DB lol

You got

Bron = Goku
Wade = Vegeta

Teaming up with Z Fighters like Tien, Yancha , Piccolo = JR, Shumpert, Love

And enemies from the past are now allies, Buu and Frieza (Isaiah Thomas, D Rose)

All together to takedown a bigger villain, The Warriors.

Will they overxome adversity?

Will LeBron surpass his limit?

Find out next time on NBA Super :wow:
