How is Dr. Dre's mixing so much better than everybody else's?

You oldheads are running in circles, first you said the mixing these days isn't good enough and now you're saying Metro is an engineer turned producer.. that shyt dont even make sense
Metro is a great producer
I'm 24. And what I meant was programmer, just didn't make the right choice of words.

17 minute mark. Basically those guys just program some stuff and the engineer has more of an idea of how to actually produce it.

Yeah I get green for 2001 as well :ohhh:
I always thought it had something to do with the album art influencing how I see the music but maybe that's why artists choose certain colours for their albums.

The Chronic is a lot lighter with yellow/sepia tones whilst 2001 is dark and neon green to me.

what do you get for shook ones?? i get this dark orange color in my head

Well that's pretty much what production has moved to for dominant genre's, entirely resembling "programming", people aren't learning on analog and then watching it convert to digital software over the course of decades.

In most non-independent cases you're going to have to work alongside another producer or engineer anyways so it's not the biggest deal if beat-makers don't begin multi-talented. Also, none of the super producers were even as good while in their 20's, Dr.Dre and Timbaland were 30+ when some of their best material began dropping, these younger guys have time to learn the craft.

Dr. Dre left shortly AFTER the album was complete. Not during. He was already in the middle of doing The Chronic and left Ruthless. Snoop and Warren G and Tha Dogg Pound were already there and Dre took them with him.

And where you can up this crazy assumption that they had last minute engineers for nikkaZ4LIFE?

The mixing on NFL wasn't complete...

Like I said Dr Dre did the first half and some unknown engineers did the second half on the mixing...

"When we mixed the first side of [Efil4zaggin], we took our time," he continues. "But the second side was a rush job. That's when all of the stuff started rolling down cause the group was almost technically broke up. It happened (Dr Dre Left) BEFORE the album came out."... DJ Yella

DJ Quik will always be second or third or fourth to Dr Dre when it comes to engineering.

But its always good to be confident in your work though.
There's definitely something magical about his mixing. Something could be perfect and still not compare to his work, something sets it above

It's not a secret that Dre left immediately after the album was released. But the album was done.

Here's an interview of Dre still claiming NWA despite doing a solo album on his own.

Now as for the mixing.... I cannot argue on if the 2nd half was rushed on not. I will say this, since you are going off that Rolling Stones article, Yella or anyone else never mentioned anything of having engineers finishing it. shyt, DJ Yella was a co-producer himself.

I saw this on your snap and made a thread about it and the mods bushed it :camby:

And to add, here's Yella on record saying how musically better nikkaZ4LIFE was, specifically how it sounds. Start at the 9:38 mark

EDIT: I forgot.... Yella ALSO STATED Dre and NWA broke up AFTER THE MIXING.

I think you misinterpreted the article.

There was a reason "Nas is coming" sounded crisp and cleaner than the rest of the records on It Was Written, yall wanna hate on that record but years later, that song stood the test of time and i actually listen to it more often :ehh:

synesthesia :ohlawd:

i literally sit and mix songs until I can get the colors Im looking for

i spent the last 3 days mixing this song...got frustrated...legit hit that "what would dre do"...:wow:

love this thread

Yeah synesthetes are insane.

My girlfriend sees sound as color and has absolute/perfect pitch. She knows when the slightest thing is off with the sound and everybody else has this look :ohhh:. She'll know which notes everyday random sounds are.

She'll straight up call what song the DJ is mixing in long before anybody realizes what's about to be played, memorizes songs effortlessly, learns languages very quickly with perfect accent, etc.

Talks about knowing how a speaker is off because of it's color coming from it.

But those sensitive ears also seem like they can be a hindrance, she sometimes has a hard time sleeping because of the fan's noise (which I don't even notice), notice small tidbits about songs that are out of place/different that'll bother her, and again everybody around her doesn't notice it..

Yea,The album was done as far as recording and beat making goes.

I gotta find it. It's a documentary where Yella even says out his mouth "They had some amateurs that didn't know how to mix trying to mix the second half of the NWA album because Dre left."

I know somebody on here seen that besides me can post the link to that documentary.
