So we're going to act like Puff can't mix a sonically top tier album?

His last one MMM was sonically great.
since when is puffy engineering his own records? or any record for that matter? what he does is tell the engineer "make it sound more shiney" and then lets him figure out what he means by that and how to do it.

On another note, The 7 day theory gotta be the WORST MIXED album among the classics, i mean, the vocals are mixed so horrible on hail mary, you got the doubles going out of place not even lined up, the eqs are all over, they weren't lying when they said he recorded the album on the WACK ROOM which is where all the none elite producers on death row would be at and pac gave no sh*ts when it came to recording, just press record and worry about the mixing later type of ideology :mjlol:

sh*t sounds like he just recorded it and the engineer turned this in cuz the deadline was the next hour or something :martin:

That's why the album is so Great, The distortion gives you that vibe, you can literally feel Pac energy, The Paranoia, The living on borrowed time, it that raw...like Wu Tang Enter the 36 Chamber, mixed shytty but it doesn't matter because you get that old school hip hop feel

I know I'm like 7 pages late but I still want to know what mix engineers OP had in mind when comparing to Dre.

The compressed to death but clear loudness! Then I found out a famous mastering engineer blew out a few bulbs in his mastering house wile mastering 2001 to perfection. I knew I couldn't achieve that with plugins I downloaded for free.

:shaq2:

Then used to try to get the vocals to match his till I found out he used a Avalon Amp and Sony C800 (8,000 microphone). I knew I couldn't achieve that with a 200 dollar mic and preamp.

:shaq2:

Unrelated, but who mixed Tupac's vocals on songs like "Pour out a lil liquor"? Cause they had his shyt distorted in the High-Mid frequencies so bad that it added a hissing noise, similar to a bandsaw, then got the nerve to back it with reverb
.:dead:
and did it again on "Troublesome 96"
:hhh:

My guess would be Shock G cause it sounds like they went for a funkadelic type vibe with his voice.

but the hissing was also on Kurupt's album, no way they missed it twice

I know exactly what your talking about. Kurt version "Housewife" has the hiss. Dr Dres version doesn't. Or the opposite I don't remember.

Yo does Puff mix? Im pretty sure he's more on the executive production side.
I recall when MMM was in it's finishing stages him saying the mixing was his favorite thing to do to an album and he felt it was the most important part sonically.

Answer the question though, do his joints be mixed smoothly and clear or nah?

Not like Dre's :childplease:
All smooth mixes are not created equal
