i realize dre was 1 to quiks 2..

when quik was tryin 2 do 50ways with el debarge...

vs

the version with wanya

og

quik couldnt clear the sample with paul...prolly because quik snuck pieces of the sample in wonder why they call u bytch when he mixed the all eyez on me...

anyway..

when he couldnt clear it...quik had to redo it..n dre told em..the original foundation builds everything..

dre had alot of input on under the influence..

come 2 nyte has 2 different beats n versions..

n 50ways..

prolly a reason why the song be4 one on 1 got taken off kuz quik couldnt clear the sample on it..too

if uti was dropped on arista..from the og..that would have been quiks best produced album today..dre was quik ears on that whole album...quik jus didnt have the budget...

It's crazy, because for as long as I been a Hip Hop fan (and in this case, a fan of Dre's work), I feel like I'm almost learning it all over again from a different perspective now in regards to production --- specifically Dr. Dre's production and the way in which he's completely different from others producers in Hip Hop; from @ThaRealness ground breaking post in here to now your post with this.

I was just saying not too long ago on here that Under tha Influence is the last time Quik sounded like "Quik" in the 2000s too. Now it makes sense why that album did sound as good as it did ---- Dre's input and advice.

I feel bad for ever doubting Dre's talent now. His talent has made me gain a whole new appreciation for his work and input now. I'm even hearing the music a tad bit more different now when I go back and listen to the records he's worked on.

Dap and +rep, great post. Thanks for those examples too. I appreciate that. I can hear it. :wow:

That's one thing that's crazy about Dre. A lot of people are blessed with the ear and they can get busy on the pads, but they need other people to come in and properly mix their shyt. A lot of these guys find a good engineer and keep working with them. DJ Premier had Eddie Sancho, and now Alchemist has him. Kanye West has Andrew Dawson. Rappers do it too. Jay-Z has Young Guru. Kendrick and TDE crew have Ali.

But then there are the super rare cats like Dre that can do both.
bruh, Kendrick and TDE don't have shyt on Guru or Dre

just stop it

huggggeee difference on the OG :ohhh:

it's almost criminal when these as*wipes don't clear the sample, sometimes they just gotta do it for the culture, it's deeper than $$ :mjcry:
nah quik knew wha time it was..paul let death row make it..

n he knew who did it..kuz quik won an award for all eyez on me...he be damn if he let em do it again..he thought that bollywood hoe taxed him n dre..paul woulda went 4 the jugular

Duuuuuvaaaaal!!
I grew up listening to Dre. The first tape I ever bought was Straight out of Compton. When I heard that shyt I could not believe it. It opened up my eyes and ears. Literally. I have followed each of his releases since that day. Dre is without a doubt the Goat producer. Dude is the MASTER of creating unique, individual audio soundscapes for each of his projects. I used to :snoop: when dudes on here would write posts questioning his thrown. 2001 is the GOAT mixed album IMO. Listen to that shyt with some good open back headphones and get high, that cd will take you somewhere. EVERY sound on that album is perfected. The sound stage sounds like it extends out about 3 feet outside of your ears. The shyt sounds better than ANYTHING out right now. And that was almost 20 years ago! :damn:

I know I'm like 7 pages late but I still want to know what mix engineers OP had in mind when comparing to Dre.

Unrelated, but who mixed Tupac's vocals on songs like "Pour out a lil liquor"? Cause they had his shyt distorted in the High-Mid frequencies so bad that it added a hissing noise, similar to a bandsaw, then got the nerve to back it with reverb
.:dead:
and did it again on "Troublesome 96"

I know Johnny J created the instrumentals, but did he really mix his own stuff too?
