Just bumping this thread to say the same thing. I miss when rap music was actually melodic. Now nikkas are just preoccupied with drums. "Yeah let's just string a bunch of 808 kicks together and call that the bass". shyt is so repetitive. Sick basslines are what drew me into rap, whether be the West Coast synths or the East Coast low-pass filters.;

Dre has always been a dope producer but I wouldve never said he was the best. When it comes to engineering/mixing.....of hip hop records? He definitely has a claim as GOAT because there are so many greats to choose from. its his ears for one...then part of it is what you like as a listener.

The thing with Dre is that he's not only talented, but he's easily digestible. His albums get more notoriety cause he produces a popular sound

But if we talking bout pure overall skill. Producing, Composing, Mixing, beat making, etc. I'll take DJ Quik easily

Safe and Sound and Rhythmalism are as good as anything Dre put out
