Imagine having a rookie PG averaging 21ppg/8apg on 45/42/85 shooting for the past half season and saying that he should just be a 6th man.

Is he bad on defense? Sure. I said as much a few days ago. The whole team is. Anyone that watches their games knows this. I don’t expect him to be Jrue Holiday.

But to say he’s not a PG to build around or even start is just silly. He’ll get better as he gets smarter and stronger. Not a plus but better. The Hawks drafting/signing a good defensive 3/5 will help as well.

I was on the trae train early on but you cant deny his short comings. Dude could be a decent 6th man just come in and light it up. I cant see him as a long term starter or franchise player. He gives up more than he gives you.

He had his best numbers with Collins, but Collins missed the beginning of the season when Trae was still coming on. He’s had his best career game on game Collins missed

Trae is a gunner thats cool and all in your first couple of seasons when the team is fully invested in you but when it becomes an actually competition and the team starts choosing, Collins and huerter will be picked over trae.

Brandon Jennings never in his life played at the same level Trae is now. Same with MCW. And really Reke as well.

It would be different if Trae had not been improving throughout the year. If he had started hot and then fallen off the rest of the year as the NBA figured him out, you might have a point.

None of MCW/Jennings/Reke showed appricable improvement throughout their rookie years from start to finish.

Trae has. Among rookie PGs, his combination of passing and scoring is historic.

Nobody is stupid breh.

Collins is a 20/10 threat every time he steps on the floor. They are an inside/out combo.

Huerter can be a knockdown shooter once he gets his confidence back.

But Trae makes that offense run. He gets Collins and Huerter in the space they need to operate.

Jennings stats were almost identical except less TOs and shot the 3 much better

Mcw had a very similar rookie year to trae stats and % wise

All of these guys are worlds better athletes and defenders than trae and they couldnt sustain their rookie years
