I was only 9 when this dropped but like it or not there’s a whole segment of people that knows this song and doesn’t know the the original :hubie:

Has Jay ever dissed Tupac in a song or interview before?

Jay could do no wrong at that time.Plus it had the Beyonce stimulus boost.
Did he just “lose” a battle and Beyonce was no stimulus
I vividly remember people hating on that song, it's not some wild opinion. Entire album got clowned in real time. But I like that song, it's dope to me.

Come on, buddy. You know end of the day, the beef with Nas was just great publicity. It elevated his stock & gave him more notoriety.Beyonce definitely is a stimulus to anything she touch.

I'm talking about people at school, friends, general sentiments from the rap world at the time. Although I'm sure you'll tell us that the streets were bumping Lenny Kravitz features in Detroit huh.
:mjlol:

It was a miss. I'm not aware of many people who deny that. Even Jay fans admit it's meh at best.

2 things no one has yet to bring up about this song.

1. This song and video was the official announcement that Jay and Bey were an item. The rumors prior were now confirmed. And it was a sideways jab at Nas as if to say "I had your BM who you still gotta deal with while I embarrassed you and her then moved on and now I'm showing off I'm with the hottest chick in the game."

2.Suge Knight sideways said that he was extorting Jay Z to make this song because Jay kept saying he had love for Pac so he should show it. So Jay Z responded by sampling the song which puts money in Death Rows/Suge Knights pockets.

Don't remember the Suge thing

Remember the idea was first introduced to Jay by Kanye if I'm not mistaken

Song is cool to me

It was Jay's highest charting single at the time. Don't recall there being any real outrage Jay flipped the song

Standard rap/r&b record... ie Luther

Yep, Suge said it out of his mouth after the song came out but I forget where. He confronted Jay about how he kept saying he fukked with Pac so he should show it.

Only thing I can find on it is scattered info, the way I remember it, Suge just confronted Jay about how he kept saying he fuks with Pac so he should show it and some how someway something was worked out to where Jay Z doing the Me and My girlfriend song put coins in Suges pocket but the way Suge was wording it was as if he was hinting at it being legal extortion. And that's the real reason why the song just doesn't feel right.

Rumor is Jay got robbed in LA, and Suge got his possessions back for him. So, in return, Jay worked out a deal with Suge, who had Pac's masters at the time to remake that song.

Yea that's how Jay Z got the remix/sample cleared, he gave up points/royalties to Suge Knight

So Jay happened to have a show(s) in the West, and him thinking being cool with Dre was enough, he didn't check with anybody else that he was coming to the coast. Got to West, and came across Suge. Short story long, Suge held Jay and showed him he was the one running Cali, not Dre.

Apparently, Jay-Z had to cut check for Suge to be set free, unharmed. And accepted to pay homage to Tupac, hence the "Bonnie and Clyde" song. If you think about it, it could be true. Cuz Jay & Dre's tightness loosened up. And why would Jay-Z, a New York rapper and Biggie's friend pay homage to New York's number 1 enemy?? And Suge really had that juice.
