Depends on the reason, but all cases considered he can't last forever. Urges can be tamed and are not the end all be all of a relationship, however, he'll have to find an out someway. And masturbation only works for so long. So if a woman catches him in a moment of weakness while testosterone runs high, who knows.

Voted 1-2 years. Might be more if he committed to not having sex (wife ill, not doing it before marriage...) but if it's just because his wife doesn't want to have sex with him anymore and doesn't allow him alternative solutions it will probably be less.

Strange question ...

this act falls under "abandonment" and can be used as grounds for divorce.

Only people who do this are people who are "staying together for the children" or super sheltered religious folk who also have multiple serious psychological hangups. For average people, I just don't see how it's possible.

Except whether or not regular sex is a requirement. Yes. It is. What that entails is up to the couple, but sex is NEEDED.
