mlb will be the first, maybe in 20 years

Man, them baby boomers and geezers probably wont live that long. MLB gonna be in trouble when a chunk of their fans die off. TV Shows with good ratings are getting taken off the air now cuz only old people watch. The sport that attracts younger viewers is whats gonna run sh1t. Thats why nba teams are goin for more than their value and why mls is on the rise.

Another thing is, a billion dollar contract means the ENTIRE market is gonna sky rocket. Only 1 guy will get a billion, but others will regularly begin demanding $650-$750 million

Unless Mike Trout or Stanton(maybe) can become what Jeter has been and is right now, the MLB is gonna die. Baseball is a sport that NEEDS a face attached to it.

People in my age group and the new generation missed most of Jeter's run, we missed Ken Griffey Jr.

The biggest star in baseball right now is a damn pitcher. Trout better do work for 18 more years.

The Arsenal
Then it's not a buy out. A buyout would be what RM pays CR to release him from his contract. I doubt it's a billion.

And no, there will never be a billion dollar contract. The economy will regress and maybe collapse. Athletes will be blue collar again like they used to be.
that's not how it works in soccer. a buyout clause is what another team has to pay the player's current team. and it's a billion euros ($1.3 billion). anyway the big 2 (barca and real madrid) like to put ridiculous buyout clauses on their players for marketing purposes. they know no one is going to pay such a ridiculous number. after barca signed cesc in 2011 they put a €200 million buyout clause on him and they just sold him this summer for €35m.

A Rods contract was almost 15 years ago though.Seems like we are regressing.I agree more players will get a piece of the pie but i don't think we'll see a number that big.

even with teams throwing around money like they playing monopoly, 1 player getting a billion will never happen...a better question would've been when will we see a player get $500 mil?...
