I think the site is gold if you are a hip hop head into samples... if you are a producer it kinda sucks though. You will have to clear EVERYTHING from now on... by the way this site has been the top google results for most sample based questions for the last 5 years or so, folks aint sleeping on it at all...

yeah I kinda think it's fukked up. It's 2 sided man. As a fan, I know way too much about producing to have never really tried it. Like it's pretty sad how big of a beat-head I am and I never really gave it a shot. I'll probably always regret that. But anyways, as a fan the site is cool, and sometimes I'll get on there and see if I can find something. But on the other hand I love the art of sampling and I know that sites like whosampled have pretty much fukked the game up. I used to get on whosampled actually back in the early 00's when it was just basically a Notepad document, straight HTML, like OHHLA.com is with lyrics. I think it used to be a .org site. There weren't snippets or videos or anything on there. Like I hate checking out something dope on youtube and the top comment is the name of the sample.

shout out to the original "sample faq" site, now known as the-breaks.com

I know a lot of producers probably hate these "snitching" sites though

I just surprised RIAA haven't come through and crushed the buildings.
Because the content is mostly YouTube videos and others hosted by media sites. I don't think it's a infraction to post embeded videos from those sites. :yeshrug:

That's still copyright infringement because they are spreading the YouTube vids, which are also infringing.

Not to mention; if WhoSampled.com has ads, then they are making money by posting links to songs they have no copyright to.

Seems like the perfect mix. Didn't rapgenius.com almost get shutdown for the same thing?

It seems to post only Spotify links, now, as opposed to YouTube links. Same thing with Complex when they do those "best of..." list.

It's copyright infringement, still, because they are now hosting the music in a place that the copyright holders have no control over. That's a perfect reason to shut 'em down.

And if WhoSampled.com has ads, they are now making money off of material they have no right to.

If I remember correctly; Rap Genius almost got shutdown for the same thing. But, now, it seems they only post Spotify links, to songs, as opposed to YouTube links, like they used to.

Complex also stopped doin' that for those "Best Of..." lists they do.

EDIT: double post
