Once again what I said is that there are very few places you can live by yourself making 40k in Cali. If you're only making that much, you are either living with family or roommates.
Okay so you are saying that majority of Californians live with roommates and/or family?

I'm saying that in most places in Cali, you are not living alone only making 40K:yeshrug:
Right.

So if you are not living alone making $40K
And the census says most are making $40K
Doesn't logic say that most are not living alone?

And the thread title says "How much money a single person needs to earn to get by in every U.S. state" which is why I said this list was dumb:dwillhuh:

This is a good example of how data can be used to paint whatever picture you want.

City or county information is the data we’re actually interested in.

I just need you to answer the question. Do you believe majority of single people in California are living with roommates? Yes or no

Ridiculous numbers. It looks like they took all the major cities COL then combined them with rural counties to come up with combined Housing/Food Costs numbers

90% of the states on that list say housing costs are less than $1000 when the average rent for a 1 Bedroom is well over $1000 in a mid-sized city not including utilities. What idiot came up with this?:what:

A roommate or family. Yes I do.
Well according to the Zillow Group Consumer Housing Trends, which they gather data annually, the figure of US adults living in doubled up (non-spousal) housing is 32%
The US city with the 2nd highest percentage is the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim area at 45.5% which is still less than majority. They are right behind Honolulu.
The next highest major city in CA is San Francisco with 38%
As for the entire state of California that would probably put the average anywhere from 35 - 40% which is not majority.

That is what I mean when I say people think that every city in CA is either Los Angeles or San Fran. I am not saying it's easy, but on average you can get by with $40K in CA. Maybe not in LA or San Fran, but in many other places by majority, it's possible. And you may not live a comfortable lifestyle, but that is what the term "Getting By" means.
