How can you claim expenses a separate entity from yourself incurred against your personal wages. That sounds illegal. I'm not trying to be an a$$hole but man... please put me up on game.. I'm not trying to get fukked by the IRS
Great question (and I don’t think anything negative at all... I
the question)So (in California
) you can run a business and operate for three years without making a profit. So you can start a “business consulting company” where you are a freelance consultant. Open an LLC through legal zoom for a couple hundred dollars (which you can write off)You can then expense a portion of your cell phone bill, internet bill, a percentage of your house rent if you have a dedicated office space, clothes, meals, etc.
When you file your taxes, you file your regular W2 for your job, and you’ll also file as a business owner. You’ll write off all of the things I mentioned (and more if you’re creative) so your overall “income” changes for the year. You made X at your day job, you lost Y, through your business.
