Pops was just telling me he was paying $575 in the early 90s for a 1 bedroom in Hyde Park(affluent chi neighborhood). Same building has 1 bedrooms starting at $1450 in present day

And actually my pops old unit is for rent, says it looks the exact same except for new appliances and cabinets

Auntie charging me $750 for a 2 bedroom in they two flat. Was gut renovated maybe 8 years ago so it still looks decent. Just hate the tenants on the first floor, they smoke too much and they kids loud asl

it’s crazy how the chi will bust your ass on principle just because the neighborhood, hell my fam got a restaurant in wicker park, and i remember what it looked like in 09 or so when he first got there vs now
