Damn. I literally never called out of work my entire life and had perfect attendance in both high school and college. Guess I'm a boy scout.

Guess its funny since I work in HR Employee Relations and the warnings I approve and process the most are attendance/tardiness related.

NY State law gives 56 protected sick hours for companies with over 100 employees. We have it front loaded at the start of every year for hourly employees. If you work 40 hours, 8 hours a day, 8 hours of sick would cover you for one shift. Some of them employees in entry level jobs burn through all that shyt by late Feburary. Then they keep calling out after they protected sick time expired and end up getting written up.

after working home the last 5+ years, I NEVER call in.

even when I'm sick, I kinda just lay back and respond to emails as necessary without burning my days. the only time I call in is to take vacations.

last year, I had so much excess PTO, I had to cash in 182 hours and got paid out for them cuz we had unlimited PTO accrual until jan 2025.

We use to get paid back our remaining balance of Sick/Vacation/Personal days that we didn't use. So that was the only benefit of not taking time off. Cause you were able to get a nice little bonus at the end of the year. Now my problem is I run a team so I have to schedule them and keep time for myself and it just gets chaotic. I tell my fam every year I'll make two trips to the DMV for visits. And it always ends up just one trip to visit around my Pops birthday. Like this year I had penciled April on my schedule, an then boom it's May 9th.
