from what you gather? where you gathering that info and who providing it? :leostare:

i go by what i hear, see, feel, when i experience the music, art, poetry...seems the only right way...no?

I say "gather" because since I didn't grow up during that time, I'm really only "experiencing" some of the music. Unlike, when you listen, hear, feel music from when you grow up you get to hear the good, bad and ugly.

When you hear music from way before your time, the tendency is that you hear the cream of the crop.

edit: i remember back on :hamster: one of my first threads was how i liked Nelly's Country Grammar, and yes i got roasted on there by old heads who said Nelly ruining hip hop LOL but fukk that, i still fukks with some songs on that album heavy :win:

The problem people had with that song were lyrics like.

"Shimmy shimmy cocoa what?" and the vibe of the song being too "commercial".

As a person that grew up on Hip-Hop, I remind people that Rappers Delight was a commercial song with lyrics like "the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat" and "skiddlee beebop a we rock a scoobie doo".

It all boils down to balance, for every Rappers Delight there was White Lines, for every "Pop the Molly I'm sweating" you have "Gonna Be a Beautiful Night".

Nowaday's we happen to hear more the former on the radio (US HIP HOP STATIONS) and video channels than the latter.

i was talkin bout the album tho, not the song...

while the album was somewhat poppy it had some good songs on there still..

another thing which is VERY annoying about the younger generation is how they try to rewrite history. it's incredible. folks are literally speaking on things they do not know of. they either forget certain details of what was going on or they simply do not know YET they want to speak on it. the thing that's fukked up is they do NOT want to learn from the people that WERE there @ the time that seen it all go down. they want to diss the older heads and talk about "you're old. you don't know what you're talking about" YET these motherfukkers try to act like they're grandfathers and shyt talking about how things were before they were even born.

that's why i'm laughing @ all these 90 babies trying to take it back to the 90s. i don't know what point they're trying to prove doing all that. the 90s was 20 years ago. it came and it happened. move forward. do your own thing instead of biting off the generation that came BEFORE you and if you're going to bite, don't disrespect the people that you're biting off of. it's hilarious to see how these kids are stealing shyt from 1990 then turning around dissing the people that they're stealing from. how you look dissing the people that gave birth to your whole shyt?

:umad: because i can talk about 1992 better than you can.

and another thing too. i don't even know why you guys want to take it back to the 90s anyway. :wtf: it just irks me when i hear some of you 90 babies talk about "i remember when the internet wasn't made and life was easier". dudes, you should be happy as hell you were born in 1992. shyt, i would be happy to be born in 1992 or 1990 than 1986.

do you know how much of a pain in the ass it was to do homework back then? :wtf: godforbid you lived in an area that was poor. godforbid you had to go to the library where they had those damn paper filing catalogs where you had to look up on the subject to find the book all over the library. :dead: there was NO computer where you could download music either. you had to rely on the radio to know what a song was IF they played it. you wanted to get a song, you'd have to tape it off the radio. you were assed out if they didn't have it. there were no cell phones either. there were no digital cameras. you would actually have to go to the photo store to have your pictures developed and hope like hell that the person handling your shyt didn't fukk it up. you had to read the newspaper to get the story or watch the news. you'd be lucky to even have a computer that was on some old school shyt. the video games and the tv were the only things to look forward to at the time. you guys grow up in an era where everything is right in front of you and you bytch about it wanting to go back to a time where life was much harder than it was? to top it off, there was a whole lot of crazy shyt going on to. some of you guys would probably be dead if you grew up around the times we did especially acting the way you do. you motherfukkers are fortunate so i dunno why you're busy doing all that lame shyt.

i may be some years older than you BUT there's a huge generational gap between me and you despite that.

I see what you're sayin, I dont really talk about the 90's like that i or not wanna be from this era. When i was tapin n'sync and backstreet boys on cassette from my radio. Then i got into rap when i found a scratched up ass ludacris word of mouf burned cd on the ground at school and got a cd player then i went from that to a new radio i would put all my cd's in to play, then i found out about mtvJams and would watch that for forever and learn a lot of music that way and then itunes came along. So there was a bunch of transitions and it wasn't always easy finding music for me. I was born '91.

There's some pros and cons to every era tho. Yea we had the internet earlier on than most ppl and there's information everywhere, so you gotta really know which sources are credible and take most things with a grain of salt whereas most sources of information in ur day was prolly a scholarly, credible source. I still read newspapers i still go to libraries i still read books cuz i dont wanna turn into a completely technologically dependent zombie like most ppl in this day. I still wanna get a record player and stock up on vinyls and shyt just to have a collection. I didn't get a cell phone till high school and still never had an iPhone. That's the kinda environment i grew up in. I definitely dont pretend to know everything about 90's era rappers tho there's so much music to go through and i find new dope shyt from that time period like every day
