I’ve lived in NH seacoast my whole life, here’s some thoughts.
Unless your in Manchester, you will notice how white it is fairly quickly.
NH is a weird ass mix of white liberals, white republicans who aren’t Trumpers or racist, white people who want to be left alone, and racist Trumpers….and they are probably next door neighbors.
Like in my town you’ll see a Trump sign in 3 yards and bracketed by people with Black Life’s Matter signs next door, lol.
I had high school friends of color who never had many overt issues with racism, but one of them has a younger brother who had some in high school.
I ran into an old high school buddy a few years back, and he casually tossed the N word, with a hard R, at me like it was nothing (I’m white btw) and I peace’d out quick and was surprised AF by it, as even amongst white people up here that’s not a word I’m used to hearing.
The poorer pockets of the state (Rochester, Pittsfield, Gotham/Berlin) definitely have rednecks where you could see/hear something.
The scenery like
@Hawaiian Punch mentioned is really something to see once in your life if you can.
Also, it’s a quirky ass state. A few things to know before you go:
- No Sales Tax on anything not named eating at restaurants
- Cheap Booze ( NH has huge state run liquor stores that are some of the cheapest in the county, also without sales tax)
- No Seat belt law (only state left with this law; if your 18+ seat belts are optional)
- No Helmet law ( probably won’t see many coming up this late in the season, but all summer and early fall, be prepared for mad people on bikes without helmets everywhere
- No Insurance Law ( your not required to have proof of insurance on your vehicles)
