Uncle Phil was the hero we all needed and deserved.

Dude had money longer than train smoke but always kept it a buck, never forgot his roots, never bytched up when push came to shove and still found time to ball without it being on frivolous shyt like whips and chains.

Assuming he made the equivalent of $210,000 (2019) in the 70s, w/ lock-step pay, safe investments, and a fairly low-cost of living, by the time he was partner he was easily grossing more than $500,000 (2019). The buying power in Bel-Air in the 70s was likely a lot closer to a NY or DC suburb in the 80s than the lavish insanity of LA in 2018. He had bands. Aunt Viv also grossed the equivalent $150,000 (2019) per year tenured, they were a prototypical upper-class African-American family.
