There was a time when you had to be a great musician, not just good, to get a record deal and work with top producers. You had to come to the table already with 10,000 hours of practice, study, and playing under your belt. Tons of mediocre/failed songs before you got it right. Etc etc...

This, and weirdly, segregation. A bunch of elite talented black folks were packed by law into a few neighborhood blocks in cities and towns, and there is a multiplier effect when talent connects with other talent.Church
I think there are enough people who can play instruments today. But who are the Quincy Jones,the chefs who can bring the instrument players together and make a masterpiece?
Would the youth even think in that context anymore? Being that you are expected to make entire beats on your own,and not in collaboration?

It took me six years after buying a used guitar to even bother playing it. it's just cowboy chords rn but I still love playing
