Model a strong work ethic and cover the basic requirements of your job. As soon as you start a new job, make it your business to learn the ropes as soon as possible. Many employees settle into a comfortable routine once they become proficient at a job. To set yourself apart and stand out as a good employee, always meet assignment deadlines and demonstrate a strong work ethic.[1]
  • As a good employee, never make excuses for why you didn't do a task that was assigned to you.

Show initiative by going above and beyond tasks that you're assigned. This will show your boss that you're able to work hard and serve as a model employee. Take the initiative to complete tasks on your own, so your supervisor doesn’t have to micro-manage your work. If there's a way you can do more than complete the minimum requirement on a task, show that you're a good employee by putting in extra work.
  • If you don't know how to do a certain task that your employer expects you to perform, ask your employer or co-workers.

Learn new skills and take advantage of training opportunities. Many employers offer periodic on-site training or online training courses. In some instances, you may be expected to travel to a conference for company-side training. Take advantage of these valuable opportunities, as they'll allow you to pick up new skills and become a better employee. Picking up new skill sets and work-related education shows that you value improving your workplace performance.[2]
  • Also, if the office has a budget crisis and lets people go, highly-trained employees stand a better chance of being retained than those who can only do one thing.

Off topic, but this sounds like capitalist propaganda. These nikkas want you to get your self-worth from working for them while they get rich off you. “Above and beyond” my azz :camby:

Well, someone’s got to work for others. We can’t all be entrepreneurs :manny: . Some people aren’t built for business ownership, they don’t have the skills nor the mental capacity. Plus, not all 9-5s are equal. My friend makes 150k a year plus stock options and he’s not even 30 yet. By 35/40 I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s making 300k upwards. Most of these businesses people start flop hard, there’s nothing wrong with making money the old fashioned way. I work 9-5 with a good salary, do my side thing and help with my fam’s business. My 9-5 brings me more money at the moment.

Fukk that. Don't be a good employee if you want to be successful. Be as manipulative and lacking empathy as possible.

"Corporate psychopaths use the ability to hide their true selves in plain sight and display desirable personality traits to the business world. To do this, they maintain multiple masks at length. The façade they establish with coworkers and management is that of the ideal employee and future leader. This can prove effective, particularly in organizations experiencing turmoil and seeking a 'knight in shining armor' to fix the company. Take what you can get and move on to the next one.

Most bosses aint shyt either cuh, products of white priviledge and luck. The better an "employee" you are, the more your boss will try to keep you in that role.

And anyway, if youre out here going above and beyond on every bullshyt assignment passed down from the manager youre so focused on impressing then when are you gonna be out their interviewing?

Ive known many people who thought working hard and sucking up were a good way to get ahead, and they are all still miserable, still working too hard and still sucking up :dame:

even better if they ain't shyt. it makes it easier for you to either take their job or manipulate them and take your skills with you.
