1. As much as possible, try to be in the presence of those who are more intelligent than you. Soak in as much as you can.

2. Never make an important decision during a moment of high emotion. I can't tell you how many disasters I've averted at work by waiting an hour or two before I actually act. Once you're clear-minded and cooled down, you can see all the angles of a situation so much more clearly.

3. When it comes to other people, avoid placing too much expectations over their heads - you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

4. (Outside of a job interview) Don't try to impress people, the results will be opposite of your intended effect.

5. Study the past and visualize the future, but always live in the moment.

aye dats some real shyt bro i swear m
if you dont know what you striving for you gone be loss out
also if nikkas aim high enough they might not get to the top

Underrated thread. I love shyt like this.

Be open to others, you can learn a lot from a strangers perspective.

Soak up game, listen and pay attention to what others are doing in whatever lane you running, but give it your own spin.

Be yourself, don't try to be something your not.

Take chances, regretting not doing something in life is the number one thing people confess on there deathbed.

Laugh at life. If you can't laugh at yourself, your doing to much to try to please others.

Needed a refreasher. Lost myself and what I came to do. I was running off emotion for about two weeks. Now I'm taking in what's presented to me, calming down, and releasing positivity. And the shyt about not trusting anyone at work is true, especially for us military cats not in a hazardous environment. That nikka that's trying to be close to you when you first arrive? Look at how he ask his questions. Watch those loaded ass questions, inquiring about random shyt. Keep everything real skin deep. I threw bait out there earlier, and I found out what this guy was trying to do, thank God I caught that now. Everyone wants to be number one.

Kill your ego.

Your ego is not the same as your confidence or your pride. It's their ugly retarded brother. It's good to always strive to be as good as you can/the best in whatever you do, but at the same time don't let it blind you. Don't be that guy who always has something to prove. If you're too caught up in a one-sided competition with everybody you can miss out on opportunities to learn something from someone, or making important contacts who will serve you in the future. No one ever got anywhere by themselves. You need to surround yourself with serious, like-minded individuals.
***

Don't be afraid to 'dream big', as long as dreaming is not the only thing you do. Most people are not really out there looking for success like that, so they'll subconsciously(or consciously) seek to 'bring you back down to earth'. They'll be quick to list all the reasons something can't be done, bring up statistics and conventional wisdowm.

But the thing with conventional wisdom is that it's conventional wisdom, for conventional people. It offers way too many convenient reasons for inaction. Truly successful people(not just in the $ sense) are different. They are 'unconventional' in the sense that they're willing to take risks, put themselves out there and live 'off the reservation' so to speak.

“I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

“For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

“I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid.”

Be who you are and if you ain't happy with WHO you try to become better!

People fear what they don't understand and hate what they can't accept

Take More Chances This Year Than Last, Pay More Attention This Year Than Last, And Lastly Make Your Circle Smaller This Year

You don't have to be a gangsta to be solid. Real comes in many forms YOU JUST MUST HAVE GANGSTA PRINCIPLES

@Cynical Thoughts

not tryna be funny but honestly alot of these lil young dudes wanna be motivated

its just sometimes they dont understand the message or how its being presented to them

speaking from a young black dude perspective

alot of old cats should be able to slip in they messages while havin a lil flavor to it

like when im sayin "fly" shyt it could mean fly as in expanding your mind, stuff thats gone have you thinkin in a whole nother perspective

when i mean "boss" shyt it could be used to describe how a go-getter moves
those who strive for success and make things happen

youll be suprised certain words can trigger shyt to make nikkas sit back n think

might not be the prettiest way of tyna get a point across
but trust you can slip all the knowledge in without coming off as preachy

alot of dudes feel like older cats just be preaching
Thats why i post on here, sometimes I just like to hear or talk about things with people who seem like people I know. Alot of the information on hear can be found in books and other places but people on hear present it in a way that I would talk to my friends.
I think thats why hip hop is so influential, its something about the way rappers talk makes people want to listen..

Listen more than you talk.
Also, when someone is willing to take time to give you positive advice, take it and appreciate it.

It's crazy, I just came from the library, and I just met two people who are mentors. I just planned to work on my script, yet I met two cats who gave me some advice on production; filming, the entertainment business in general. Just off that, that was a stepping stone.

Walk presentable, treat everyone you meet with respect(unless they act ho-ish, then fukk em), because you never know who you will meet.
