It really wasn't…50's momentum at that time was comic book villain status, remember him on XXL with a damn crossbow? He was unstoppable, and untouchable more or less, hilarious in hindsight 50 Cent can definitely be listed as a victim of the recession, and 2005 was his last banner year, but it was so over the top, like the subprime mortgages and home buying, people saw the downfall coming.
But, back to 'Candy Shop', it was just there and the album, and his beef with Game, Jada, Nas, Fat Joe, had everyone on full attention, it would be shown in time, 2 years later that the formula hadn't changed, but the impact did. He got away with a lot, inflated success based on timing. My favorite 50 album tho is 'The Massacre', and while this song was formulaic as it gets, I remember I liked it enough to listen to, esp on drunken nights with this girl from that time period. 'Disco Inferno' was the real travesty from that album.
