Highlights are fukking up the nba in my opinion. I know some fans who just watch highlights of knicks games rather then actually watching the game. Idk, it just looks like basketball doesnt have the most intense fans, ive seen more passion for baseball:scust:

This is true. And I've been guilty on plenty of occasions...

But I still make time to watch and root for OKC's Big 3...

Same could be said for Thanksgiving games.

The main thing about the Christmas games is they generally have the best matchups.
Well, I don’t care about Thanksgiving games so there’s that.

XMas games might have the best matchups on paper, but the games themselves usually disappoint.

have 2 LeBron's at the same time in the same draft class or 1 class apart at best.
NBA has stars and they're great but they're not must tune in generational talents. As great as a Anthony Davis is he's not bringing in a ton of casuals.
Steph is the closest they got right now for that. But KD kinda fukked that up for him.
It'll be up to whoever next.

Just need one white American player who is a legit superstar and the nba will surpass the NFL
Not really. 1) the white American talent pool is awful, 2) the success of the NBA hasn’t been dependent on cacs since the 60’s. it’s just not a white American sport, they’re not good at it and they don’t watch it that much
A Cac hasn’t been the face of the NBA since its early years, and that won’t change now. Even if it magically did it wouldn’t do much for domestic popularity

NBA is a better product and is viewed better around the world.
Change the thread title to within the U.S.

As a non-US breh it's always strange to consider that the NBA isn't the most popular league in the US. It's huge worlwide, while almost no one cares about the NFL outside the US.

What is/will the NBA doing/do differently than the NFL to become more appealing to a larger audience?

- The NBA playoff system makes it virtually impossible for any team below the 2nd seed to be NBA champs (let alone play in the Conference Finals or even NBA finals)
There are teams who have won the NBA title outside the 2 seed. You act like every Superbowl champ is a wildcard who squeaks in the playoffs..that shyt is a rarity in the NFL.

- Superstars only want to go to teams already stacked to win.
Plenty of superstars are on small market teams that arent stacked.

- Games are hard to access and watch for casual fans
NBA games come on every day :mjlol: fukk you talking about.
NBA comes on more stations than the NFL...NBATV, ESPN, TNT, FOXsports. You can watch every game for your local team on Fox sports. NFL games are subject to blackouts..foh

- Not a lot of year-to-year parity with teams.

This has always happened in the NBA..Celtics in the 60s, Celtics and Lakers in the 80s, Bulls in the 90s, Lakers/Spurs in the 2000s and Heat/Warriors/Cavs in the 2010s.

Dont act like the NFL doesnt have that issue tho. Steelers in the 70s, 49ers in the 80s, Cowboys/Broncos in the 90s and the Pats today

How is the NBA gonna change and do NFL numbers in the future. Help a NFL breh get on the trend NBA brehs :manny:

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
There are tons of factors, but I'll just leave this here

*As of 2016, the NFL median viewing age jumped up to 50, up by three in just a two year span.

international doesn't matter or make it more profitably domestically. Soccer, baseball are just as big as basketball internationallly. Hockey is also big internationally. All four of them pale in comparison of interest to the NFL nationally.

baseball isn't as global as the NBA at all

thats why MLB and NFL don't get that endorsement money...they ain't global like the NBA:mjgrin:

The top of the NBA endorsement food chain is led by LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Both are global superstars who made $42 million and $34 million, respectively, last year from endorsement partners. James has been one of the NBA’s top endorsers since he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003. His current partners include Nike, McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Samsung Electronics , Upper Deck, Audemars Piguet and Dunkin’ Donuts.

The four-time MVP is the NBA’s top endorser.

Five championships and 18 years of All-Star play transformed Bryant into the most popular player in China with a little help from his main backer, Nike. Bryant also has deals with Turkish Air, Lenovo, Hublot and Panini for merchandise.

The NBA’s top 10 endorsers pulled down $155 million last year by our count. It dwarfs the totals in baseball and football. MLB’ s 10 biggest endorsers earned less than $30 million off the field last year with only Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki (all in Japan) making more than $3 million from sponsors and merchandise. The NFL’s top 10 made $55 million from endorsements, led by Peyton Manning at $12 million in 2013. The NHL lags even further behind with the 10 biggest stars making $15 million cumulatively.

It’s gotta be the shoes,” Spike Lee told us 25 years ago, as his alter ego Mars Blackmon in a series of Nike commercials. And the gap between NBA players and others in team sports all starts with the shoes. The NBA’s biggest stars can command more than $10 million annually from Nike and Adidas . Nike represents almost half James’ off-court income, and James was the NBA’s leading shoe salesman in 2013 with $300 million in retail sales in the U.S. of his Nike signature shoes, according to research firm SportsOneSource. Rose signed a 13-year, $185 million contract with Adidas in 2012. A $1 million a year shoe deal is extremely rare for an NFL or MLB star. Basketball players move product unlike their counterparts in other sports.

Basketball players can also take advantage of the global nature of the sport. Bryant has made trips to China the past eight years for Nike and he is one of the brand’s main chips in its battle against Adidas in China. Bryant partnered with Turkish Airlines in 2010 and has been featured in commercials with global soccer star Lionel Messi. James’ Dunkin’ Donuts deal is for Asia only, and he entered into a new partnership with Chinese Internet services firm Tencent last year. These deals are not available to football and baseball players.
