Just get them started by a loctician and LEAVE THEM ALONE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. Wash them occasionally, but wear a silk cap when sleeping.

Twist as necessary for regular maintenance, but the less you fukk with them in the beginning, the faster they lock.

Chick that does mine charges like $60 and I see her every other month. It was $80 to start them.

Sponge brush and some Cantù on a regular basis

Wash it a couple times a week

Air dry

It should loc up on its own everyday if you don’t pick thru it

Everybody saying go get them redone by a stylist is right. Then all you gotta do is twist on em a bit but don't play with em too long. Once you locked you just gotta keep em up. I'm thinking of regrowing mine

You have to go through an “ugly phase” with starter locs. Whether you start them yourself or go to a stylist, the first month or so you shouldn’t manipulate the hair. If you’re trying to be “neat”, it’s going to be difficult.

I had them twice in my life. First time I went to a shop and they gave me gel twist. Wait like a month a get them retwisted
My second set I started them myself. No comb or nothing. All by hand :smugdraper:. Same as before waited like a month then I started getting retwist. Now my hairline & dreads are long gone:mjcry:

Most brehs in here have said it, but get a loctician to start your loccs, don’t be the goofy who does the shyt yourself tryna “save money,” it’s gonna look like shyt.

Been in the game going on 8 years now. My hair is softer than most so I had to get my hair retwisted every 2 weeks until my loccs started to form and tighten. Every time I got a chance I would twist my hair around my index finger once the starter locc became loose as maintenance. When I started I also worked a physical job, tried to keep my shyt wrapped up as much as possible — or just thug it out and deal with the sweaty head. Took a year and some change for my hair to fully locc but once it did I ain’t look back

Look up the crochet hook method. If I were to redo my hair, I'd do that. Amazon has the 1, 2 and 3 needle hooks if nobody local has em.

I kinda used a cheat code when I first started off with mines: Interlocking. Mainly because I didn't want to wait til they locked on their own.

Once you get that done, you can wash your hair anytime you want and it won't wash off.
