i would like to see him address education first. With his background it seems as if he has a good idea/headstart on how to approach the problem. However, NIMBYism, racism, and corruption (what this state is built on) will be a bytch to deal with.

They superintendent is closing down a lot of public schools to make way for charters. It's a mess right now

yeah :wow: . but education and (some othe rposter on here said this), and encourage Newark residents to go to college (especially the ones here) will be the best way to fight off NY-style gentrification IMO

It's tough to say. There are no jobs in Newark, decrepit buildings and establishments everywhere. The state took control of the school system which doesn't bold well for the black students.

I agree. We have to utilize are college base (Rutgers, Essex County College, NJIT, Seton Hall Law) and better craft a pipeline from public school to college instead of public school to the penitentiary

Watch how those privately run charters will get shutdown a couple yrs from now. The closing of the public school systems is all predicated on the fact they no longer need our service. Why spend money on public schools when they can spend those dollars and use the latino women and men who might do the job for less. That's why more prisons are being made. They have to make money off us somehow and they're banking on more young black men and women going to prison. And they say slavery doesn't exist anymore.

State has had control over Newark Public Schools for almost 20 years. Ras has definitely been pushing for the city to take back control of the schools. But Christie has let it be known that he and the state are running the show. It's going to be tough.

Exactly....this is why our ppl have to wake up. I started a company called New Era Sync and we're small but it's something like the Rainbow Coalition or the National Action Network but we're actually going to fight for our ppl. We have brothas and sistas from all walks of life and religious background. I will expound more on here, but we're planning to officially start pushing around Mid August.

How? Mark Zuckerberg gave 100 million and they blew like 1/3 of in on consulting fees and then gave raises to teachers. You're only as strong as your tax base and Newark consists of a lot of low income households. Honestly the only way to turn around cities like Newark is through gentrification. All of the important parts of Newark like the ports are controlled by cac's that don't even live in the city limits.

you understand what gentrification does right? and NJ's segregation/NIMBYism? 30-40 yrs from now we're going to asking how to fix South Orange, Nutley, and Union etc.....pushing the poor out and bringing in rich folk may make the city better but poor people don't just disappear. if potentially more Newarkers were educated/employed you will see improvement from within, that benefits the WHOLE region

All them places are smaller than Newark and don't have much influence. That's not really the problem except for the towns themselves.
