The mold, mice and roaches in campus dorms.

The students doing sit ins since the 12th of October (#blackburntakeover). Sleeping in tents, air mattresses & sleeping bags.

Now 80 yr old Rev Jackson took a nasty fall after helping the students :mjcry:.

Been there done that.

It seems most of these HBCUs have older buildings that could use face lifts and updating and in some cases complete demolition to build them back to more current day code.

I love my university and it helped me become who I am today, but a lot of those dorms and stuff were in desperate need of updates when I was at Grambling State.

In more recent years, when I occasionally return for homecoming and other stuff I see they have built newer construction apartment style dorms, but they didn’t have all that when I was there.

I remember the elevator in the freshman boys high rise use to stay out of order and the A/C and stuff would constantly be going out in the heat of the summer. This partly the reason I decided to stay off campus.

Despite all that I had some of the best times of my life there.

Do alumni donate? I’m not being funny.

My sisters attend a pretty janky HBCU where a shooting took place and I remark at like do y’all actually accept these experiences from your administrations? It’s baffling.

I went to an HBCU and it puts you in a tough spot. You don’t want to talk down on black people, ever, but this is unacceptable

I honestly don’t know what the solution is but I hope the youngins get what they need. Ain’t no way you paying 30k a year to live like that
DAP+REP I’m a proud alumni from an HBCU too and I felt that word for word.

I think this may be the issue with HBCUs compared to PWIs. There are much fewer alumni who have the extra income to donate, and fewer kids who come from wealthy families who make donations.
Which is fine, but even my limited knowledge base (mostly fam) y’all pay A LOT to go to these places whether in loans or outright tuition. This is absurd that students live in shyt like that.
