Why wouldn’t they do that when that’s how they live their lives in every other area? When you start talking about harnessing and redirecting Black spending power, which would absolutely result in positive changes for our communities much faster than hoping for favorable outcomes of elections, you get the ultimate pushback. Nobody is worried about the community then, it’s about my money my choice. Same when it comes to supporting institutions like HBCU’s.
Politics is much more than just voting in elections and arguing over two parties controlled by corporate interests. Huey P said politics is what we engage in every day in trying to secure food, shelter, and security for ourselves and our communities. The Black community largely acts in an individualistic manner when it comes to these, so why would voting be any different?
