If you knew how cap illmatic's impact was, you'd understand. Nas wasn't a big deal in 94'.
Album was average. Got 5 mics by some asian chic, in a bias magazine.
But in real life, meant nothing

You're a weird duck that needs attention.
Nothing else makes sense

You have told us how you feel a 50x
Apparently you're not changing anybody's mind n nobody is changing your mind. So why keep pushing the issue. Why click on the thread other than you have some underlining feminine traits

Actually my initial response makes perfect sense and is right in line with the topic of the thread. I'm not concerned with how you or anyone feels about me. I'm just here to give honest perspectives on matters that present themselves.

Plankton negged you for your post in the thread I Always Found It Surprising That “The World Is Yours” Didn’t End Up Being A Pop Hit In 94. With the following comment: In your world. In Hip Hop he was considered the next big thing.

@Plankton in bias east coast media he was considered the next big thing. In the real world. A bunch of other artists whom ALSO made their debuts in hip hop, totally were out shining him.

Brat
Coolio(as a soloist)
Biggie
Warren g
Outkast
Bone
Etc etc

Nas was a afterthought.

The hook was just as catchy as anything popping in them days (Big Poppa, CREAM, How High Gin & Juice etc)

Im going to chalk that up to needing a dictionary to keep up with the verses

Timeless Song

How old were you in 94

In the South we was messing with Nas starting in 1992 when Zebrahead ST dropped and Halftime was on there. Still remains the most played Nas track down south. Nas was too hood and didn't promote the album or tour or do many interviews that were open to him back then....aka play the game like BIG did. Just wanted to smoke weed, drink, fukk bytches, and catch BS court cases until promoters stopped booking him

He did promote illmatic

The album was for "hip hop heads" not for the masses.

Nas and other "heads" need to realize that the only a certain crowd was into that album. Once he made pop rap songs then he started to sell.

The reason it wasn't a pop hit cuz it wasn't a pop song. It was hip hop song. The whole illmatic is based on raw pure hip hop. It was made for the pop charts.

In order to do be a hit it would have had to cross over. Very few hard core hip hop joints do that, but a few famously have, eg C.R.E.A.M to an extent.

But that's also because it had a catchy chorus that everybody started using in everyday language.
