. I got their greatest hits on deckclearly it’s not obvious to you since you made this thread.no shyt captain obvious
thank you for that astute post there

My 2 favorite bands of all time are Mint Condition and Ready for the World. I've been rocking with both since their debut albums. I was in elementary school when Ready for the World came out. My older cousins and aunts loved their music. I was in high school when Mint premiered. During Mint's run, r&b started to merge with hip hop. Now I love hip hop, but I hated seeing my favorite artists singing over hip hop beats and rugged drum breaks. Angela Winbush has a hit with "treat you right" and then it hurt my heart when one of my all time favorites singers Melvin Riley(from RFTW) released his debut and on some tracks he's singing over hip hop beats. I'm not saying the songs were bad, but it just seemed out of place for him to be doing that to blend in with Jodeci, H town, and many others from the era doing that.Yeah, they were a band in the middle of the "hip-hop soul" era. I might say they only had one single that could be considered a crossover hit. They weren't doing remixes and featuring rappers on their shyt... not that there's anything wrong with that but that pretty much sums up why they weren't "big" at the time. They were popular, and that was amongst an older black crowd more than anything. Their music was more mature for the time, it wasn't like they had a lot of impact with the same crowd that was rocking with Jodeci, MJB, SWV, TLC, etc... you could see them on Video Soul but rarely on MTV Jams. You could catch "U Send Me Swingin" on the radio but not as much as "Freekin You" or a Boyz II Men song. Highly respected tho'.
That's not why I thought they were popular in the 90sclearly it’s not obvious to you since you made this thread.![]()
thisDifficult to gauge success back then because it was before the internet. So you could hear something all day, every day in your neighborhood or school and think it was doing "Thriller" numbers when it only went gold or 1x plat.
Fred.
I just mentioned themWhy you guys not even mentioning Tony Toni Tone? They were a better group than Mint.
off top of my head, as far as a band, and a actual band not just a group of singers. I can think of Tony Toni Tone.
they are the first ones i can think of, off the bat who sold more and who I imagine overshadowed them in the 90s
and aint nothing wrong with that TTT is some beast![]()

AgreedSaleswise probably, but in terms of actual musicality? I love TTT but they are not fukkin with Mint Condition skill wise. Mint Condition could play everything from R&B to blues to jazz to rock.
TTT had bigger songs. MC had better songs.

Obviously you thought wrong lil fella. Logic ain’t everyone’s strong suit but I had to make things simple for you. That's not why I thought they were popular in the 90s
Reading comprehension is a struggle for ya ain't it fella.
