Three options:

1. This album marked the end of Dre as a producer who is serious about his craft.

2. Dre is serious about his craft and is perturbed about the reception of the album.

3. Same as number 2, but it also makes him want to put out something of substance to course correct.
4. He's serious but the juice (or the right crew) ain't there anymore:yeshrug:

Crazy. That Marsha Ambrosia album was heat. Dude(or his ghost producers) just phoned it in for snoop

I enjoyed that, but I did feel that it was too derivative (by design, admittedly) by using all those old school samples.

Missionary also used obvious samples, which makes me wonder if they were the cheap and easy to clear options.

It didn't feel like a Snoop and Dre album. None of the beats sounded like Dre and I doubt he had much to do with the compositions

The raps didn't feel like Snoop either. It was overly technical when it didn't need to be

It just has no soul or character, but it's not necessarily "bad" either

It felt like an AI album or a generic mainstream rap album template from like ten years ago

Compton was actually interesting

It wasn't what people wanted from Dre but he was experimenting and trying new sounds. There was effort put into it clearly

It also led to Anderson Paak becoming a star

He had Premier on it too and that was a good song, I enjoyed the album way more than any of the stuff he’s been involved in recently. The best project that was also good is Marsha’s Casablanca album.

Also as one of the colis few real snoop stans...

Legit makes me angry. Trash ass weedplate :camby: Just ran it back for no reason, 2-3 good songs
There was a Dr. Dre and Snoop album?????

What?
I dont't follow new rap music because let's be real; this shyt or 98% of it is hot trash that sounds the same.

But how did the people who ran 90s-00s music... do an album and I - a big fan of their music - had no clue?

Snoop and Dre outgrew each other. That style of music on Missionary is moreso Snoop and Pharrell bag than Snoop and Dre bag. Dre>>>> Pharrell, but I think Snoop making that same album with Pharrell production would've worked much better.

Album came and went and I did not go back to listen after a few spins... It was mediocre at best with a few good songs with little standing out nor worth going back to listen to with other shyt dropping. Huge letdown for the rollout they had and re reunion of Dre and Snoop proved there is nothing more there.

That song was nice and at this point I would rather hear him do songs like that and get Premo to do a few then have Dre and him work together again, that ship sailed....
