Sorry, but Illmatic sounds dated in a bad way. I mean i can listen to some of the songs, but as far as classic albums I listen to, it's the one that hardly gets any replay from me.

That sound may be dated to them. I usually let that slide with people when they tell me that.

But you gotta feel It Aint Hard To Tell or GTFOH

:manny: to each their own. Illmatic is great from start to finish imo but at the same time I can understand someone my age not being into it. Albums like that are the reason i became a hip-hop head. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy some of the music out today but growing up listening to Early to mid 90s hip-hop made me who I am today.

Not everyone who listens to hip-hop, is a fan of hip-hop. If that actually makes sense.

I listened to The World Is Yours, and I've only heard that because of 2k13

I havent listened too anything else because I have chose not to, not that I dont like it...I just cant find the time to hype myself to listening to it

The Infamous>>>>Illmatic

I've said illmatic are revisionists favorite album it wasn't the best album of 94

Ready to die,The diary,Thug Life Vol 1,Funkdafied and creepin on the come up all had more buzz than illmatic and hard to earn was better too

I can only understand that it's dated in its beats and how it's composed, but lyrically it is light years ahead of it's time. It's certainly far more advanced than anything today.

That being said, yeah...I can understand how a 20 year old may not be into this album like that...illmatic is the best hip hop album ever IMO...but I grew up with it, whenever I do listen to it it literally takes me back to pure euphoria of 1992-1994....I start having flashbacks and shyt from anything from MArtin episodes on Sunday nights to champion hoodies and cross color tees...to a time of dubbing mix tapes from recording on the radio and before the Internet.

For what it's worth i'm glad it sounds dated.

All young folks hear today when they listen to it is the final product as iit relates to this day and age.

Now mind you, I can appreciate groups like the temptations, dianna Ross, the supremes etc...and my parents love that stuff, but they definitely hear it differently than I do.

Nah, there's good dated and bad dated. For example, "Uptown Saturday Night" sounds old yet fresh. The Chronic still sounds crispy clean even today. Illmatic just sounds dusty as fukk.
