why is capital punishment not a classic album?

Let's say it is a classic. There are at least 10 rappers with multiple classics.

Saying Pun is the undisputed best rapper ever off one classic is basically throwing guys like Pharoahe Monch, Rakim, BDK, Ghostface, and Kool G Rap under the bus even tho they all better and were able to put out more

The Baby Jesus verse is the most insane verse man. Even my wife, who isn't a Hip Hop head like that rewinded that verse about 50 times one night in amazement

My friend who's a rapper often recites that verse to me, Pun was a massive inspiration to so many MC's. Yeah, Pun's shyt was like effortless tongue twisting but with potency and substance. Very intelligent MC/writer, he put time into his bars clearly. There's him rapping on radio too where he absolutely slaughters and bodies it.

Im just trying to get inside his mind and figure out what makes him tick..
because we have debates in a few threads..hes really opinionated but sticks to his guns so i can respect that

i dont even know if id call capital punishment classic. my own criteria states that you shouldn't skip any songs and be able to play it front to back. and i cant play punish me ever.
but it does have almost 20 tracks that i love so..idk

but lyrically..pound for pound pun was too ill

Lol I love Punish Me. It's hard to do a love song and not come off corny but he did it

i never go out of my way to play it i should say...
so basically id never argue with someone calling capital punishment a classic

Cool, to each their own anyway but personally it's a perfect song too me, flawless delivery, that song meant a lot to me as a young Hip Hop fan, the way he rhymed on that shyt, mixed with the content and emotion. It sounded effortless, the rhymes were perfect, I know what AZ meant when he said the bar still handling like Pun on tracks cause AZ often does that perfect rhyming style/flow too.

I think a lot of people are dictated to what classics are by others/media, Capital Punishment is phenomenal, it's a complete lyrical masterpiece, flowing masterpiece, it's exceptional. 1 of the top 10 Hip Hop albums probably to me.

:myman:

@ the bolded: get into the mind of a maniac.

album was hot, but its like dude said earlier in the thread; it wasnt THAT crack. shoot, i remember noreaga's tape being more popular and he doesnt get props for anything anymore except the war report.

capital punishment being considered a classic is merely purist priveledge.

like 20 tracks and only a handful of them were stoppin time. and overall, i could prolly do without half of the album. i cant really think of any tracks that were actually bad off-hand but the album just drags overall.

fat joe's "jealous one's envy" is better than big pun's albums
