lol not this shyt again....I swear, ether has to be the most overrated diss ever....3 reasons why i think it keeps getting overrated:
1. for whatever reason people wanna make nas into this mythical rap underdog figure, when he aint...that cat aint been an underdog since illmatic dropped...and especially since he dropped 'if i ruled the world'...
2. ether came out second....and in rap battles, people tend to rock with the second diss more because it's the latest...also, unlike mobb who dedicated their career to dissing jay after takeover, nas only had this as an official diss....yea, I know he had stillmatic and threw shots on tracks, but nothing was ever deemed official...so it seemed like he was done with the beef after ether, while jay kept going on....
3. jay was running rap at the time and rap 'fans' hate the favorite...so that helped elevate nas/ether even more cause of the dislike people had for jay at the time...
......i'm just saying, it wasnt and never will be as powerful as cats try to make it out to be....did it have an impact? yes, cause he was going at jay who was running rap at the time...but was it this 'oh my god, i cant look at jay the same' diss that people keep trying to make it out to be? hell naw....the same way people were rocking with ether, they were rocking with takeover...

agree with ol buddy. Ether is the most overrated shyt ever. From the most overrated rapper ever. Look, I like a good diss record, but Ether aint it. For example, LKGN shyts on Ether. Just a horde of fakkets that are naS cocksuckers ran with it. Same nikkaz that think "I ran like a cheetah" is lyrical.
1. lol he wasn't an underdog then and hadn't been one for a long time...but rap fans need to make someone the underdog going up against the fav, even when it isn't real...
2. that goes with what I said...since nas didn't officially respond with anything else, it made it seem like he was done with the battle...so with jay being the only one still going, the aura of each thing he released was getting reduced, while it added to the aura of ether...
3. not true...what did he say that made it more powerful: he felt insulted cause the man told him to suck his dikk?...that's how a lot of men feel when it comes to that....anyway, people used that as a reason to say ether was better, but it didn't matter...they more cared just to see jay fall than anything else, and up to that point they didn't have shyt to rally around to see that happen...nas was just a big enough name (another example showing he wasn't an underdog) they could rally around...

Nas stans have been campaigning for 13 years.
There was never no real justified battle between two songs, it was either a full song in Ether vs half a verse on Takeover (which ended Mobb Deeps career).
Or Ether vs a freestyle. I'd rank Ether the best diss songs of all the songs released but then Jay had 2nd, 3rd and 4th best songs in the beef. And the fact that Jay released a much better album.
So I can't really say who won.
