I can't imagine having the belief that once you're gone, it's over. That's it. No more existence.:sadcam:

I'd be scared shytless.:lupe:

It's like....what's the point of even trying to achieve the greatest of achievements when you know all that work you put in, you can't reflect on it when you gone(in the afterlife I mean). :to:

I.....I..just can't...ugh. Don't you feel miserable?

Good luck you all :whew:

It's not a matter of what we would personally like to happen....

It would be absolutely amazing if, after we died, we were able to live on, for all eternity, in a paradise. The problem is that, nothing in the material world seems to suggest that this is likely to happen. Outside of *human centered beliefs*, there isn't any evidence at all that there is something "beyond". How that makes us feel, whether miserable or delighted or scared shytless or brave, doesn't matter.

And of course you can imagine being non-existent...it's no different than before you were born. Hell, actually, it's no different than when you were a new-born (Considering most people don't have a memory of early childhood).

Don't take this personal, but to me, you're the worst kind of theist. I mean, people who have genuine faith are one thing. And people who were just kind of born into it and know no other way are another (Not that these two things are exclusive, they often go hand in hand). But a belief in god because...you just don't like the idea of the alternative? Naw playa, doesn't work like that.

Think of it in another way. What you're saying, is essentially the same thing as an atheist saying "I don't believe in God(s), because I don't like the idea that there is a chance that I will suffer eternal damnation because of my sins"....which is just as much bullshyt.

You sure you picked the right God? Have you taken all the necessary steps? You sure all that weed-smoking, whore-fukking, cursing, lying, and cheating that you've done isn't going to damn you forever?

The Forest Where Hope Died
"We are going to die - and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die, because they're never going to be born. The number of people who could be here, in my place, outnumber the sand grains of the Sahara. If you think about all the different ways in which our genes could be permuted, you and I are quite grotesquely lucky to be here. The number of events that had to happen in order for you and I to exist...we are privileged to be alive, and we should make the most of our time in this world."
-Richard Dawkins

Not to sound like an a$$hole, but considering how sand is made that could never be true

Threads like this actually make religions look bad. The obsession with an afterlife tends to make people lazy regarding this life. It also makes them complacent. It makes them believe certain ills just have to be endured and it's all good because I won't have to deal with it when I'm gone. It's arrogant and it also makes religion come off as some kind of crutch and cop out when things get tough. Plus it is filled with the lame stereotype that atheists are uncaring and miserable creatures because they don't believe in the afterlife. Poll the many folks that commit crimes both large and small on whether or not they believe in an afterlife when they die and end these bs beliefs.

Claim to be all about acceptance as long as people accept your particular way of thinking, brehs.

i think the truth exists within us, and even tho every religion to me is mostly bullshyt, within that small percentage that they all have in common lies the truth. i believe all human energy is only borrowed from the universe and when we die, that energy rejoins the larger energy(which is what i think got life started). the whole of all of our energies(or spirits if u will) is what we refer to as god. its not a man or a sentient being, its just an energy. where did it come from? we will never know. how did it start? why does it have to have a start? as humans we are conditioned to think of everything having a beginning and an end because we see life and death in all animals and plant life. however if u think about it in terms of borrowed energy, you see there is no beginning or end. its an endless cycle that has no beginning. time is not real and exists in our mind. there is no past or future. what seems like a lifetime for us, is probably shorter than the blink of an eye somewhere else.

religions are just something primitive minds came up with to explain the inexplicable. like my nikkas in true detective said in the last episode looking up at the sky. "its all the same stories man. light versus dark.". religions existed to help guide people into being good people. until bad people got a hold of them. then we all started smartening up. i mean, we dont do anything the way we used to do it 3,000 years ago, why keep thinking that way?

fukk the books, just dont be a shytty person. its simple.
