They're trying there hardest to gentrify this fukking city. John Hopkins is buying up every piece of property and land it can and Under Armor has this dream of building some kind of Under Armor metropolis near the harbor. They're throwing up 300K housing where they're used to be nothing trying to bring in "young professionals" aka, white people.

Problem is that there's NO incentive to live in the city. You get raped with the taxes you pay just for living in it, and even in the designated safe white areas, (Canton, Fells Point, Federal Hill, Inner Harbor) you could still get fukked up or robbed sometimes.

The only time you see a huge influx of cacs is when the Ravens play, the Orioles play, comic con is in town or if it's a nice Saturday in June. Then when it gets dark, they head to the bars near the harbor, then they promptly get the fukk out when it's last call.

Mass transit is a joke. We have the light rail that only goes north south (conveniently having stops right in front of Oriole Park and M&T bank stadium). That's it. If you live on the east side or Westside of the city, fukk you. Catch a bus that comes once every fukking hour

I mean shyt, we can't even get a decent fukking concert here because the arena was outdated IN THE 70s. It has a stage in it. Like a fukking high-school. Look it up. Colleges have better arenas then we do.

For a city where almost all of the government is black, they do absolutely nothing to help they're own people.

They'll bend over and open their ass for Under Armor, no problem. Johns Hopkins been fukking them for years. The city loves building hotels that nobody will stay in. But make a true and sincere effort to help the people of the city? Nope.

As a group of men tossed bills and dice against a sidewalk outside the McCulloh Homes housing project one spring afternoon, Tavon Winder confronted two onlookers to ask if they were with the police. The game was illegal. He didn’t want any problems. He’d had enough in his life. Under the 31-year-old’s T-shirt, a scar snaked up his stomach, and beneath his pant leg, he balanced his weight on a prosthetic leg.

Both injuries were gained not from a far-off war but from a shooting on a nearby corner in West Baltimore.

“It’s rough,” said Winder, a father of two who admits to selling drugs in 2002 when he was shot. “I know a lot of brothers and friends that are gone. I almost lost my life right down at the end of the street.”

Next door to the housing project that was featured in the HBO series “The Wire” are two schools in one building: Renaissance Academy High School and Booker T. Washington Middle School for the Arts. Those who work here say the building’s red-brick facade is a flimsy shield against a neighborhood and city all too familiar with bloodshed.

‘I don’t know if people understand what is happening in Baltimore’
life is rough in all inner city environments

black men are totally disfranchisement out of the economic system...over time the system force u to compromise your morals and put u in a position where either u have to face death or jail to survive.....

For one, you shouldn't market a city as a specifically for one ra.e. Also, gentrification doesn't mean "white people" it means professionals. Furthermore, you main complain about these companies buying up all this land but those companies are added jobs to the local economy, construction workers, more employees for the companies buying that land to work once the building is constructed. That will, in by default raise the quality of life. The city is gentrifying all over the place. The reason why nikkaz don't get shyt from the city is because those who professionals are the largest tax base, and even they feel like they get the short end of the stick which is why they move to the suburbs.

Race does not build a prosperous city, money does.

nikkaz should be looking forward to all the extra amenities that gentrification provides. And we could possibly be getting a new arena, ironically it would be where the State Center Building currently sits, next to McColluh Homes.

I'm trying to visit Detroit in the near future, but come on breh. There is just too much to do in downtown Baltimore and it's not even debatable. Too many restaurants, too many bars, too many neighborhoods, and currently building another neighborhood from scratch that's right next to a neighborhood that is brand new itself. All that we haven't even mentioned the activities on the water, or the stadiums, or the casino, or shop, or the fact that's this is all in walking distance. There are too many reasons to go downtown. There are only a few cities that can compete with downtown Baltimore as far as activities are concerned. No offense, but Detroit isn't one of them.

I live here and where is said buildings?
:jbhmm:

There are no abondoned skyscrapers downtown. I pay close attention to any and all building construction/conversions downtown. The only reason any building in downtown Baltimore would be vacant is if it's being converted to apartments, or if it is a new construction that hasn't been completed. The former Sheraton hotel downtown had one vacant tower, and only used the other, but it's currently being converted to condos. Detroit is the only major city with abandoned skyscrapers, and even that is about to end for them.

You dumb af
:hhh:
Dissmiss yourself at once

Gentrification wouldn't be a bad thing. The only real setback is that it erases the local culture of a city. Baltimore has a very strong culture, so outsiders are more likely to assimilate with Baltimore than Baltimore will assimilate with them.
